Mark of the Ninja Remastered from Klei Entertainment due out on October 9th

By - | Views: 12,144

Mark of the Ninja was a damn fun game and it's one I'm pretty happy to see remastered, it has a trailer and a release date now too. Due out on October 9th, hopefully with the Linux version ready then.

When we spoke to Klei a few months ago, they clearly said it will have a Linux version but they weren't sure if it would be ready in time. The Steam page is now up, which does have a SteamOS + Linux system requirements section, along with a SteamOS icon so given how close it is to release it looks like we're good. Even if there ends up being a small wait, Klei games are worth it. Small update: I asked Klei about a Linux build, they replied with "yeeeeup".

Check out their brand new trailer:

For those who can't view the video, the new release has enhanced visuals with support for up to 4K. The original was compressed down to 720p, so that's quite an improvement. This includes better background and character art, so it's going to look pretty damn good. Cinematics have also been improved, there's 5.1 surround sound support and it includes the special edition content too.

It will cost $19.99, although if you own the original on Steam upgrading will cost $4.99. Even better, is that if you own the original AND the DLC the remastered game is free for you.

It already seems to be in my library since I own the game and DLC. Obviously can't install yet.

Looking forward to this for sure, 720p backgrounds seem dated even for 2012 and this game looks very pretty.

I'm kind of disappointed that while porting to the newer consoles, they didn't take the chance to make a few other changes, but can't complain if it's free. I'll definitely play this one again.

Just checked, I already have it, too. I honestly didn't notice that it was upscaled from 720p when I played it on my 45in 1080p TV.

I was going to buy it instantly, but I already have the game and the special edition DLC, so I should be set.

The game is now in my library on Steam too (even if I do not have any DLC with the original version and do not see any on the game's store page). The game has been sleeping in my library for three years but now that I have a gamepad I think I will wait for the Resmastered to give it a proper look! ^_^

$5 upgrade to a remastered edition? That's a good deal I think.

It's not that great when you consider all they did was re-export the existing high-res assets to be at their native resolution. They didn't really "remaster" anything, just took what they already had and rebundled it. It should be a free update really, but if you don't have the DLC, you're getting that I suppose.

Again though, I'm not really complaining since I have both the game and DLC.

The DLC is £3.99 and the upgrade to the remastered version, which includes the DLC, is £3.99. So, yeah, this is pretty great, in my opinion.

Hmmm. Looks like my copy of this is on GOG rather than Steam. I hope the remaster gets there eventually.

I hope they improve the performance a bit too. The original wasn't the most lightweight indie game I played on a AMD APU, and one of the reasons I fear for the choice Atari made for their new Linux based console.

Me too, nice!

I just noticed that Microsoft was the publisher on the original; I guess Klei got full rights to it.
