Megaquarium [Official Site], a brand new announcement from the developer of Big Pharma is a rather exciting looking simulation game. It's touching something I don't remember being done before; building your own aquarium.

It's due sometime early next year, "Q1 2018" is the closest thing we have to a release date just now.

I was actually sent the press release yesterday, but I err..forgot to check the official GOL inbox since 99% of my info comes to my personal mail.

You will be challenged to (according to the press info):
  • Layout your tanks and equipment to optimise visitor flow while maintaining easy access for staff.
  • Discover the varied and demanding care requirements of a veritable ocean of aquatic livestock. Look after them well and they’ll grow, leading to stat increases.
  • Hire staff and direct them efficiently to maximise their specific skill sets. Pay attention to their personality traits and be careful not to upset them or they might leave.
  • Synergise your livestock and decoration choices to maximise your income.
  • Use your resources to unlock new equipment as well as new species of fish, crustacean and invertebrate life.
  • Avoid dangerous confrontations between your animals by selecting tank mates carefully.
  • After exploring all the fish available from the livestock merchant, it’s time to start breeding your best specimens together to create brand new species!

The developer said they are attending the 'Rezzed' gaming event next week and they will have a playable build. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That's a cool idea for a simulation game. I like aquariums!

Looks cool. I'll keep an eye on it ...

Would be cool if you could design the fish tanks too

This game will only be complete once you can hang a giant whale replica from the ceiling of your aquarium.

The original Zoo Tycoon had two expansions, one of which was specifically aquarium-themed, allowing you to add tanks and a large number of aquatic animals to your zoo and have things like dolphin, orca, or sea lion shows. But that's quite a long time ago, so it's cool to see a modern take on the idea.

Nice, I really like Big Pharma. Let's hope their new game will be like it or even better. ^_^

I know it's a game, but i don't like zoo or aquarium or safari or other "realistic animaly themed" park games. I'm fine killing people with heavy machine guns, put them in jail, starve them, freeze them, harvest their organs to build a cyborg miner, etc, but i'm less willing doing so with animals. I wish the zoomed out view had more of an aquarium theme than what is shown in the trailer. As it is, it's an adorable idea, but it looks a bit too sterile and doesn't quite tickle my fascination with marine life.
