More games coming to Linux (via Steam)

By Anon - | Views: 15,437
Since some games have started listing Linux as a supported platform in the Steam CDR, we can now keep track of what games will be there. Currently, the list goes:

      World of Goo (+ demo)
      Eversion - new to Linux
      Trine 2
Serious Sam 3: BFE (+ dedicated server) - new to Linux
      Galcon Fusion
      SpaceChem
      Steel Storm
Solar 2 - new to Linux
      Dynamite Jack
Crusader Kings II - new to Linux
      Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
      Waveform - new to Linux
      Cubemen

The list is likely to grow during the next couple of weeks, since it's still missing most of the Humble Bundles - hopefully the devs will be putting their builds there. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Not a bad list at all, but there will be many more than that I am sure!

Hopefully Paradox follows with the rest of their catalogue. But at least Crusader Kings II, so there's that to look forward to.

But yeah, many of the Humble devs have already expressed that they will be getting the ports there, so it's probably certain. I just hope I get into the beta, whenever the signups are open.

Seems that Waveform is already on Linux, at least per this. Woops I guess, should have checked further.

Also, that's the guy that's porting Vessel, apparently they're close to having it on QA, shouldn't be long after that that we all get it.

The appearance of Crusader Kings II is interesting.

Does Trine not have a Linux client?

Yeah, I spotted Crusader Kings a couple of days ago (at least, I think it was a couple of days ago). I'd heard nothing about Linux support being considered for it before. I also wasn't aware of Dynamite Jack either ^_^

It's been interesting to watch as each CDR (Content Description Record) with Linux in its validoslist parameter has appeared. For anybody who's not already keeping track of this stuff, a searchable (though, sadly, it's not possible to search specifically for Linux titles) mirror of Steam's CDR database can be found at http://cdr.thebronasium.com

There are many games with Linux clients that are also on Steam, but don't have Linux listed in their CDR.

Here's the CDR for Trine if you want to keep an eye on it: http://cdr.thebronasium.com/app/35700

Edit: Ooher, I just discovered that the Marlamin CDR mirror has been updated to allow for Linux title searching: http://marlamin.com/cdr/search.php?s=linux&searchby=os

Yeah, that's the list I pointed to. Also, Amnesia is there now, so I guess that's another place I'll install it from and never play.

Oh, sorry. You're right. I didn't spot the link in your first post :)

Bring it on, the more games the merrier!

I am just looking forward to a seamless update experience without me having to visit different websites or resorting to the buggy Desura client (Desurium still has problems with updating :().

Yeah, I'm right now keeping track of my games on at list 3 or 4 websites, and this will simplify it greatly (also, Steam is always first when it comes to updates from many devs). I just hope Civ5 (or Civ6, in a couple of years) follows, but without such buggy ports like the Mac one, they have to wait months for updates and then it doesn't even support everything.

Oh, and btw., nothing surprising about Dynamite Jack, they were on the Humble Store with the native Linux version for some time now.
