NVIDIA have again pushed out a brand new Vulkan beta driver, with version 418.31.03 now available with game fixes and new extensions.

As a reminder, these drivers are a special series all by themselves, done outside of their normal driver series to test new features, new API extensions and other interesting stuff.

Here's whats new and changed in this release:

It's good to see NVIDIA act so quickly to help improve Linux gaming, also interesting to see drivers get special adjustments just for projects like DXVK. Not surprising though, since it's included in Valve's Steam Play. The more games playable on Linux, the wider the testing area they have.

See the full info on the NVIDIA website.

Hat tip to Jack!

Sadly, it seems the original Ubuntu PPA for these drivers hasn't been updated in some time.

I probably shouldn't share this ... but:

So, we have game-specific (well, even game-under-Proton/DXVK-specific) fixes and tweaks in proprietary drivers for Linux.
Strange times :)

According nvidia json file:

{ "fileformat_version" : "1.0.0", "ICD": { "library_path": "NV_VK_ICD_", "api_version" : "1.1.99" } }

^_^
Is this Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami?

I know Yakuza 0 works via SteamPlay / DXVK, but Kiwami got released yesterday and I'm curious if it works as well (there are no reports on ProtonDB yet).

You have the wrong link it's /ppa not /dev
Last update was 4 days ago for version 4.15.27

https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
Wrong, that is the normal PPA.

Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Again, like the other link someone gave, this is not the correct one. The one I linked to in my first comment is the correct one, but it's not being updated.

Quoting: wvstolzingI used nvidia's installers for about a year on Fedora (and briefly on openSUSE), with no problems; the kernel modules would be automatically rebuilt with each update. I moved to negativo17's repos just out of laziness -- and because he updates his repo very quickly. (The only drawback is that he doesn't package the beta drivers for stable (so to speak) Fedora.)

I understand distros' general caution about this, but I don't get why they don't explain (in wikis or manuals; whereever the topic of proprietary nvidia drivers comes up) *exactly* what's under risk of breaking. It can't *just* be that they don't want newbies to panic when they have to boot into a virtual terminal.
The problem with scripts started as root (it is the case with installation of nVidia driver via official script) is that they could do everything. In another words your system is no longer "legit" after such installation outside packaging system. Proper driver package (I mean from trusted sources like https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/nvidia-driver/) could be fully uninstalled via system dnf tools. With driver installed via script - you do not have certainty that uninstall script will work properly (I mean it will properly restore original files).

Nowadays situation is much better, but in the past proprietary nVidia driver installation was a mess. I mean in the past nVidia proprietary driver to work required replace many Linux system libraries related to OpenGL and others... It was one of many reasons why nVidia was banned by Fedora for many years... Nowadays thanks to Red Hat/Fedora and nVidia cooperation - situation is much better. For example thanks to GLVND (OpenGL Vendor Neutral Dispatch Library) proprietary libraries could coexist in system without removing their open counterparts.

Quoting: GuestFixes for HITMAN 2?
I played the whole game with Proton and didn't noticed any issues. What was wrong? o.o

i guess this is why. this game runs pretty good with proton and some linux users already played it
same with life is strange 2.
less money for feral
Not entirely true. Feral somewhere mentioned that if game port is announced - you could buy it before Linux release, they will get their money anyway (probably it is some kind of agreement between Feral and publishers). So in case of Life is Strange 2 - they will receive money even if you played it on Linux via Steam Proton before port release. In case of Hitman 2 - port is not announced, so probably you are right and Feral will receive nothing...

even if that is true, life is strange 2 was announced for linux before proton came out
hitman2 worked day 1 with proton (except online, but this also works now)
so maybe feral just dont get the licence to port hitman, because IOI can have linux money too

Yeah, Michael Marley is clearly not updating the "correct" dev PPA anymore - but he has his own PPAs and he does make updates there. He has actually posted the 418.31.03 driver now, but it's to his "staging 2" PPA.
