Unvanquished sure is one of the prettiest open source games around isn't it? Like clockwork they have released a new alpha with a bucket-load of changes.

One map has been spruced up with new textures while an old Tremulous map has been updated and put into Unvanquished. They have also balanced a couple buildings costs towards a better playable game.

Lastly they also cleaned up their build scripts to reduce compilation time which is always nice.

As always there is more to come. I can't wait to see how it turns out when they finish it up enough to call it a big 1.0 release. I imagine a game like this would be quite popular once finished.

See their full post on it here.

What do you think to the project? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quite right. This makes me wonder why Phoronix hasn't added the game to the Phoronix Test Suite for benchmarking. Is it because the game constantly changes and therefore wouldn't provide a stable means for benchmarking?

This reminds me of Jedi Outcast.

The graphics look great, and hopefully the gameplay is equally awesome. Gonna give this a download later and try it out.
