For those who like your old school action RPG games and you're interested in game engines, Flare [Official Site] hit the big full release recently along with the new Empyrean Campaign.

For those not familiar, Flare is an open source, 2D action RPG that's highly moddable enabling anyone to create their own entire games with it. I had followed development quite closely years ago, but it went quite a while without any news so I honestly thought it wasn't being developed further. Great to see it out though, especially since they put in their own campaign. Here's the trailer:

Quoting: KelsIt's a pretty fun game honestly, but I got up to the puzzle with the 8 switches and I have no idea how to get past it but tedious trial and error so I gave up. There aren't much in the line of hints that I can see, and nothing to indicate when you get the puzzle partly right so you know you're on the right track.

Getting stuck can be frustrating.
Can you skip through a youtube playtrough till you see that part and how to solve it ?

Is there one? I went looking for a walkthrough or hints but didn't find any. Didn't think to check YouTube.

But going by what the dev said, I'll wait and try the revamped puzzle instead.

Not many open source games get this far and actually achieve a 1.0 release. These guys should be congratulated....plus they've already patched it to version 1.01!

A lot of people had problems with this puzzle, so I redesigned it for the next upcoming version, 1.01. The new puzzle better follows the logic for the previous switch puzzles in that area. The new version should go up sometime this weekend.

That sounds good. Will I need to replay the game up to that point with the new version, or what?

You won't need to restart in order to see the new puzzle.

How do I do this, given that 1.01 starts in a new folder? Do I copy something? I have no idea how saves are kept, so it's unclear what I need to do if I want to avoid replaying the whole game again up to that point.

Saves are in ~/.local/share/flare.

Oh, so it doesn't matter which instance of Flare I'm running, it'll default to the same save file. Handy!
