Out of Reach, a survival game with a pirate theme has Linux support

Out of Reach [Steam] was emailed in today, seemingly one that hasn't gotten a lot of attention. It's a pirate themed survival game and looks reasonably good.

It's regularly updated with big content patches, but overall the reviews on it are "Mixed" with not too many player's online. It has the usual survival features of dealing with hunger, crafting, animals to fight and so on, but a pirate theme does sound pretty fun.

It sounds like it has some AI pirates to deal with too, with various camps to take down and the ability to build Boats, Trebuchets and more sounds fun.

I have to admit, I'm quite interested so we've requested review keys. One to watch for sure, has any one tried it? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Tried it for a short period a while back, but I never really got into it. Seems to me it would take you quite some time to actually get to the point of having fun like seen in the video. The server I played on just had me spawn on a baron beach, so it all looked very plain and boring. Will give it another shot sometime.

I trie it and it's looking great, but i have bad FPS 7-10 FPS on Minimum Grafiksettings with a GTX 760 OC.

Apparently it's already in my Steam library, must have been part of a bundle at some point? I'll give it a go this weekend.

I like the setting "Pirate-Punk", but it looks like crap. Not "technically" (even if...), but more about artistic direction, general design. Beside the theme, it's a totally random visual with no soul.

Used to play it with Kallestofeles some time ago, was fun but not enough content sadly.

Kallestofeles made a nice review about it as well:

After watching the trailer and kallestoffeles review, I think this is a game with great potential that I would enjoy quite a lot. It reminds me of both ARK and Rust in good ways. I will definitely buy it if we either get our own server, or enough of us agree to join the same server elsewhere.

This game has been around for quite some time. It changed it's name at one point (don't remember what it was called off the top of my head) and, originally, wasn't explicitly pirate themed. I played it briefly, and didn't seem like there was much available to do. Looks nice, though, and could be fun if you have a bunch of friends who all like survival games :)

I don't get what's supposed to make this "piraty" at all.
It just looks like a coastal survival game with some small 1-man boats. I guess the "cut-throat" part might be the reason, but still.
I was expecting to see open waters, big sails, cannons, crews, treasure, etc..

the only thing that comes into my mind is that there is a big pirate ship that appears at random times where you can go and trade stuff ..thats it
