Outlast Deluxe Edition is currently free on the Humble Store

Still don't own Outlast? Outlast Deluxe Edition is currently going for nothing on the Humble Store and it supports Linux.

About the game:

In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, the asylum has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.

Acting on a tip from an anonymous source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind.

It's easily one of the scariest games I've ever played! Seriously, I can't get very far in it as it really is frightening.

Our streamer iAlwaysSin will likely be doing the Outlast DLC for Halloween on our Twitch channel, should be fun.

You've got another 1 day and ~8 hours to grab it for free for the Humble Store.

km3kThanks! I must have missed when this was originally brought to Linux. I thought it was Windows only.

PitNo, you cannot get it for free as DRM-free Download. I tried to 'buy' it (I do have a Humble account), but it leads to a page that says that I have to link my Steam account to the Humble Account.
While unfortunate and unneeded, it may be because the DLC is not available DRM-free…

g000hNot signing up for an account - well, it's up to you, but I like getting my hands on these various offers (and some of them are DRM Free, e.g. this Outlast has Steam keys and DRM free downloads)

Looking at the FAQ this seems to be the case for any free game.

I find that quite a disrespect of DRM-free users, and for me this makes Humble lose all the bonus points they got with their last 'Very Positive Bundle 2'

You do get a DRM-free download, at least in this case. I "bought" this free package and have both Steam keys and DRM downloads in my Humble library now. Unfortunately, there's no DRM-free download of the DLC for Mac or Linux. There is a DRM-free download of the DLC for Windows, so maybe you can bug the developer to upload the Linux version too.

Outlast is definitely a good choice for Halloween. I've already played it and also the DLC. Hopefully Outlast 2 will soon be released for Linux. They said it would come soon after the Windows release together with the Mac version, but neither Linux nor Mac have been released yet.

20 minutes. That's how long I "lasted" playing this game. Hell no.

I played it at the end of last year, when I was suddenly craving horror/scary games. I played it during a break from Alien Isolation, and I have to say it is a quality horror game on it's own. However never ever watch someone play at the highest difficulty, because the game is basically a running game 90% of the time, sometimes with parkour elements. And it takes out the scary part, because you just run through it.

I would say, while A:I and Outlast is really different, for me Alien was more scary, than Outlast. Outlast had some shocking elements, but I don't think it brought anything new to genre (gameplay wise I loved that you can clook back while you're running!).

Outlast 2 is even more crazier, I watched a few hours of it, and I decided I won't buy it if it comes to Linux. (I got the first game through Humble Bundle, but I only played when I had this crazy Horror game period).

Thanks, I already had and finished Outlast, but I didn't have the DLC.

I cannot use the key. Maybe someone can put it to better use.

Walked in through the window then the lights shut off and I turned around like a sane person. I'll eventually get somewhere in it... maybe. The free key was only way I was ever going to attempt it

Maybe I was too sloppy in my wording.

My major issue is that you cannot 'buy' this free game unless you have a Steam account. Only if you link your Steam account to Humble you can get the free game, and only then it will show up in your Humble Library (including the DRM-free download)....

Just took it, thanks!
Was away the last week, so too late for the Humble offer.
I'm amazed that none had grabbed it before me, 4 whole days since you posted it
