Parkitect alpha 19 is out with new rides, new scenario options and plenty more

Posted by , | Views: 3,488

Parkitect [Official Site, GOG, Steam] continues to get more awesome, with the release of alpha 19 which adds in more fresh content.

It adds in the Gentle Monorail Ride, which fits around paths and other rides to give your visitors a little scenic tour. Looks pretty nice!

Another new ride is the Water Coaster, allowing you to drench your guests while they get their thrills.

For those of you building your own scenarios, you will be pleased to know that this release gives you more options. You can make it so people cannot terraform, adjust their money and so on.

They've also added in skeletons, a mausoleum and sculpture props to make your parks look a little more varied too. Your entertainers can also now dress up as a scarecrow too.

There's more to this release too, see the release notes on their development blog here. Not mentioned in the development blog, but is mentioned on Steam, is that the top 5 entries to their recent build competition are now included in the game too. I've taken a look and some of them are absolutely nuts!

As always, I'm loving their attention to detail. Everything looks so slick, I really do love watching this game progress. It's still in Early Access of course, but don't let that deter you, it's really sweet.

I bought Parkitect earlier this month. It basically is a (very) much improved Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. (I use RCT2, because RCT3 was horrible.)

The devs have been coming out with a update every month which adds new things and has bug fixes. There are still some rides from RCT2 that they have not added yet (like a suspended chair lift) but they have added quite a few that were never seen in RCT1/2/3. It is in early access so this is good as they are progressing.

Their recent build competition, which appears that it will become a regular thing, is a great idea. They pick a ride (one that has a track layout), let players design the ride/layout and include the top 5 in game. Last month they did the competition with a flying coaster, this month will be the Ghost Mansion Ride. Great way to add content to the game as well as increasing player participation.

One thing to note... Right now there are no scenarios. The devs say that when released it will have a campaign mode, but it hasn't been done yet. (Again, it is Early Access, so this is not an issue at this point.) However, it does mean that until it leaves EA, you are limited to sandbox mode only and any scenarios on the steam workshop.

Overall, it is a good replacement for RCT2, the graphics are much improved. I find that worker management leaves a little to be desired, but there is plenty of time to work on it.

I also have played OpenRCT2. This works quite well as well. It allows RCT2 to run on linux with high resolution screens as well. OpenRCT2 is great for getting your RCT2 fix... but it is the base game, nothing changed. Parkitect is under development, it is having some things that need improvement, but it is on its way and I expect it to be great replacement in the future.

I miss Roller Coaster Tycoon and really want to pick this up but I have to adhere to my strict no early access principle.
