Physics based building game 'Besiege' adds multiplayer and a level editor

By - | Views: 8,489

This is awesome to see! The rather good physics based building game 'Besiege' [Steam, GOG] has now added multiplayer and a level editor.

Note: The game is currently in Early Access.

Now you can truly test your building skills, since you can battle friends, team up to annihilate fortresses and armies of unfortunate knights. It's a huge change for the game, which already had massively positive reviews from users on Steam.

The limitation right now with their new online multiplayer is that it's limited to joining by IP. Hopefully once they've managed to ensure it's stable, they can add a proper lobby system and a server browser. I can't remember that last time I had to manually join a game by IP, as it's quite old-fashioned and not exactly user-friendly.

About the game:

Besiege is a physics based building game in which you construct medieval siege engines and lay waste to immense fortresses and peaceful hamlets. Build a machine which can crush windmills, wipe out battalions of brave soldiers and transport valuable resources, defending your creation against cannons, archers and whatever else the desperate enemies have at their disposal. Create a trundling behemoth, or take clumsily to the skies, and cause carnage in fully destructible environments. Ultimately, you must conquer every Kingdom by crippling their castles and killing their men and livestock, in as creative or clinical a manner as possible!

Oh, nice! I got this years ago back when it first came out and was just thinking of going back and playing it some more (since I don't think I ever finished the new campaign stuff they added later). This looks like just the incentive to do so, plus now I can play with friends. :)

I'm sure they'll be able to get the multiplayer system more user friendly in the future now that they have it in place.

level editors are fine and all but, shouldnt we be supporting, i dont know... OPEN SOURCE GAMES?
nah, just lets lock OUR content to an proprietary runtime.

come on guys, an OSS game should give us much more freedom than just an level editor in theory, but if no one fund one that aint gonna happen...

Quoting: adamhmBesiege is on GOG too :)
Gah, another case of a developer not mentioning it on their site. My bad, added the link.

We would cover more open source games if more people emailed in tips about them, I post them whenever we do or whenever one of my RSS feeds for various open source games gets an update. It's not that we're ignoring them, but a lot aren't updated for some time.

Just to note, apparently you can also invite people through the usual Steam system; my brother was playing earlier today and invited me to join a game that way, no IP typing necessary. (I timed out half a minute later due to his connection being really spotty, but the connecting part definitely worked.)
