Psychonauts is currently free on Humble Store

By - | Views: 16,417

Need something free for the weekend? Got you covered! Psychonauts is free to grab and own from the Humble Store.

The game was originally released in 2005 and came to Linux much later in a Humble Bundle after Double Fine took back the rights to the game. If you're interested, our contributor Hamish posted a review of it on Linux.

About the game:

A Psychic Odyssey Through the Minds of Misfits, Monsters, and Madmen.

This classic action/adventure platformer from acclaimed developers Double Fine Productions follows the story of a young psychic named Razputin. In his quest to join the Psychonauts--an elite group of international psychic secret agents--he breaks into their secret training facility: Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp. But this is no average psychic summer camp! A mysterious villain has kidnapped Raz’s fellow campers and stolen their brains. Now he must use his psychic powers of Telekinesis, Levitation, and most of all his ability to project himself into the minds of others--to find the loose noodles and keep them from falling into the wrong hands. Fight mental demons! Uncover hidden memories! Sort emotional baggage! Explore the fantastic realm of the inner mind! Join the Psychonauts!

Not much to say about it, as this is a quick tip so you don't miss out on a cracking deal. I've never played it myself, but maybe it's time.

You can't get it without linking a steam account to humble.

Quoting: PitNow Steam-only on Humble. Sad and disappointing news that is :(
It's available as DRM-free download as well.

It says "Steam Link Required". Is there a way around it that I don't see?

Well, if you sign up for the game, you get a Windows, Mac, Linux Download page on your Humble keys page. The download is 4.1GB, and you can grab that without installing Steam. The order page has icons for "Steam" and "DRM Free".

So where can you "sign up for the game" without a steam account?

I hope this makes it clear enough....

This game is sooo fun! It's one of the few games that got a "good" review from Zero Punctuation too!

Yep, to get to this page you already need to have a steam account linked to the humble store. For which you obviously need a steam account first.

Really? I had many games available as DRM-free on HB long before I linked my Steam account.

Anyway, you should register on Steam, this is not as scary as you probably think.

So it was an error on the store page obviously. When I followed the link just before I wrote the initial post it only had the steam icon.....

Yes, I see the download, too. But I bought it with the HIB5 and assumed new buyers wouldn't get it anymore...
