The game released on Steam back in 2013 with Linux support, but it just released left Early Access as a finished game. I'll be honest, I forgot about this one completely. I don't remember anyone even mentioning it since the original EA release. It doesn't have too many reviews yet either, with multiple reviews claiming it still feels unfinished — ouch.

About the game
QuoteThe united orc tribes attempted to invade the region of Thorwal, but a group of valiant adventurers thwarted their plans during their previous quest. Now the orcs have regrouped and attacked other, more vulnerable areas – Lowangen is occupied and half the Svellt Valley lies in ashes. An elf ambassador summons the party to the city of Kvirasim. To unite the races of the elves and the dwarves in the struggle against a common enemy, they must recover an artifact known as the Salamander Stone.

Yet not all is as simple as it seems: As the party approaches an abandoned dwarven mine that may hold the answers to their questions, someone else makes it clear that not everyone in the country favors a cooperation between the two races.

Star Trail is a faithful remake of Realms of Arkania’s classic sequel. This hardcore RPG features dozens of talents and spells, distinct races and character classes as well as a challenging isometric turn-based combat system. Obey your orders and succeed in your quest to retrieve the Salamander stone – the peace between elves and dwarves depends on it!

Thanks, slaapliedje!

I will slap it on my wishlist and wait for a big sale. It looks intriguing enough, but maybe they should have done an old school isometric instead of trying for an Elder Scrolls style. That animation is going to be hard for most people to overlook.

To be fair, the original was very much like Alternate Reality, Bard's Tale, Ishar, etc. So first person while you're walking around, but then instead of the others, it breaks out to a turn based combat, more like Ultima 6 that is isometric.

Yeah, the graphics looks really weird. The palette looks too bright and the animations are horrible.

Also, can I play as single char? I don't really like squad/party based RPGs as I am loner and I usually have to "identify" myself (i.e., roleplay) certain character... and I can't do that in party... which results of my playing one and having X backpacks... which is weird. But usually games that have party are designed against playing it with single char.

Shame, there is not enough good RPGs.

You should give Ishar a try. While on the one hand it is party based... I suppose you don't have to have other characters with you. In fact you hire other characters as you want them, Some characters don't like each other, so if they're wounded in battle and you ask one of them to heal another one, he may refuse.

Granted the game is extremely hard, in fact to save the game it charges you gold...

I wonder how you can promote a game with such a bad video. It's even stuttering.

Edit: Just watched the gameplay video. It looks like early access stuff. If they work on it for another 1/2 year or year it might become decent.

Seems to me they did that very thing for the first one. One would think they would have gotten better for the initial release of this.
