Red Baron Remake Adds Linux and SteamOS Support

By - | Views: 9,637

Two days ago we published an article about Mad Otter Games asking if there anyone was interested for a Linux port of their Red Baron remake that they are kickstarting. We Linux users are quite vocal about things we like and many people displayed their interest in the comments and now they have given an official response to us Linux gamers.

I think this was a cool move of them and I would most certainly like to see more flight sims like this, especially ones set in the World War I. I played a demo of the original Red Baron years ago and it was fun back then, so this will be on my wish list.

Just to remind you though, this game still needs your help! Their Kickstarter is running for 25 days and they are quite far away from their goal of $250k, so spread the word and back the project if possible!

I'm a Linux gamer from Finland. I like reading, long walks on the beach, dying repeatedly in roguelikes and ripping and tearing in FPS games. I also sometimes write code and sometimes that includes hobbyist game development.

Really interesting, I'd like to play it, we lack this kind of game. I've asked them about buying this game DRM-free, Steam-free.

Great news! I myself sent them a direct message about how much i loved their original Red Baron games, and i was excited to hear about this new one.

really? have you missed out on war thunder, for example.
and if steam is such a big problem for ya, war thunder does not require steam, it is free and pretty well built and runs awesome with wine. (i've heard talk about a future native linux build... but i have no useful info on that)

I don't like to play games with Wine, that's not fair support. I must be getting old and tired of stupid software. Thanks for the notice though, I'll wait for the native version.

Yes, I didn't know. I received the answer in my email too. This might be the first kickstarter I'm in.

The kickstarter campaign is cancelled as they won't manage to get enough money : http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madottergames/red-baron/posts/646132

They'll continue to work on the game and will start a new campaign in a few monthes when they're better prepared.

Just want to thank Liam for covering this one. It's a pity the funding campaign didn't make it, but hopefully they can build up a bigger user base through some social media campaigns and come back with a stronger campaign later!
