Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for Linux, port from Feral Interactive

By - | Views: 73,435

Many asked, now Feral Interactive have answered. Rise of the Tomb Raider [Steam] is officially on the way to Linux! What a fantastic way to start a Tuesday with news like this! It still amazes me to this day that Linux will have games like this, very happy with the news!

Feral aren't saying exactly when it will arrive, but they had a tweet out that said "This Winter" which has since been deleted (Edit: replaced with this one). You can see the official confirmation on their official site which now says "This spring", so it could be here sometime between March and late June.

The advantage of getting a game later than Windows, is we get the 20 Year Celebration edition which has all the DLC.

For those wondering, it will indeed use Vulkan on Linux! This is confirmed at the bottom of the Features page on the mini-site.

Here's the trailer Feral put up:

The game has been loved by reviewers and users alike, so it looks like it will be a solid hit for Linux gamers after more Lara. It takes the first game and makes nearly all aspects of it bigger and better than before, including more actual Tombs.

It seems this is the game that has replaced the previous Linux port teaser of "O VAIN ILLUSION OF GLORY AND GRANDEUR" that was put up back in October of last year. We still have to discover the game behind the "It's just a shot away" teaser that was put up in January, so there's more on the way remember!

Are you hyped? Let us know in the comments.

Quoting: evergreenok, I don’t like games like this, but I bought it to support feral and to test vulkan. yahoooooo!!!

ps. any hope feral can put hands on Ark survival evolved?
Why would they need to? The game already runs on Linux and is arguably more native then their ports. It isn't very well optimized and has some bugs but that's just ark on all platforms
The word Optimize seems to be unknown to the Ark developers.

I know it is OT, but I have to short answer: if you compare it to windows, you think you are playing on unreal engine 1 on linux and unreal engine 3 on windows. bugs are present on windows too, but the graphic is since 1 year like another game 10 years newer.

I mean it's graphics are nice on Linux. They may or may not be better on Windows seeing as I've never played it on Windows but the graphics are good enough. Graphics don't make or break a game for me and it's not like they're bad in the first place.

Yeah and some of the bugs I've seen make me think studio wildcard is just a front for Bethesda XDXD. Oh well. That's just ark. It would be nice if they fixed some stuff instead of adding more content. I like the content but some of the bugs make the game rather frustrating to play at times.

Don't get me wrong, when it works it's a great game & I can lose hours on it, but there are times when it's an adventure all of it's own just getting it to start, it's like they're putting updates out as puzzles with one piece at random that breaks everything & they're not telling us which one it is.

It's a great game, but it could be so much better if they stopped using the Bethesda method.

I've only ever had one update break the game but yeah...the bugs are not fun.

Then I must just be unlucky as I've had several updates cause me problems, from broken textures including the water, to not being able to play the game at all till the next update.

Anyway that's enough about Ark, this is supposed to be about Rise of The Tomb Raider, does she start with the same skills she has at the end of Tomb Raider? or do we start from scratch?

I finally got round to watching the trailer for the movie yesterday & I wonder why isn't the lunatic cargo cult worshipping an undead Japanese queen/demon/ghost good enough for a movie? It seems to me (from the trailer) they're re-doing parts of the storyline from the second Jolie movie with the illuminati (here called Trinity) wanting to release a deadly plague on the world.

Why change the story from the game that much?

This could be considered a spoiler I guess, but if you read the journals in the game, the cultists do actually want to "burn" everyone who isn't a follower of the goddess with her power. I guess that's not much different from a deadly plague.
