Road Redemption Released For Linux, It's In Bad Shape

I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but Road Redemption has finally released their promised Linux version (Early Access). The problem isn't only how long this took with it being years over-due after being promised for Linux in 2013, but how bad it is right now. Something fishy is going on, as it says "Trial version" in the corner.

I've tried it myself, and it utterly crawls along at sub-10FPS all the time. Honestly, I wouldn't even consider buying it right now, but we will update you if they manage to fix whatever is causing such horrific performance. People are right to be annoyed, but if it comes out properly with performance fixed up, it's better than not coming out at all after promises.

About the game
Road Redemption takes place in a post-apocalyptic America, ruled by a brutal dictator. Without telling anyone, your gang leader has decided to head to the capital on a desperate assassination attempt. When the government catches him, the consequences for your gang, and everyone you know and love, will be devastating.

It's up to you and your fellow gang members to race across hundreds of miles of dangerous highways in order to track down your derelict leader before the government does. What you do next is up to you. Do you try to stop him in order to protect your family and friends from punishment, or do you join him in a risky attempt at ending the oppression once and for all? I can confirm as well that is literally unplayable :><:

Well there is a chance that the developers uploaded the wrong build on the Steam servers since it says early trial development version...

It's still in early access though. I would not call that a "release" in the classic meaning of the word, but rather a pre-release, beta or test build.

6 fps here.

Core i7
8GB RAM
GeForce 730M 2GB
Ubuntu 15.10 x64

what's weird is that as soon you press the ESC key during a race, the game feels smooth for half a second.

and the menus don't lag.

it must be a very small bug causing the low fps issue... I hope they fix it soon!

This is why I don't buy early access games.

I, for one, will definitely be looking to be a buyer if they do... *fingers crossed*

I think people put too much power in the term "release". If it's available to purchase with real world money, and to download and play then it's released. Early Access/Alpha/Beta etc are all made up terms by developers. My point: it's just a word(s), you're still paying for an advertised product, so it should work to some real degree here.

Do you see a "trial version" in a corner ?

They talk about it on steam community

It might be an error, either this is the wrong build or someone hit the red button by accident and it wasn't supposed to be released today. Or it might be a bug that didn't happen in theirs test units, I don't think they meant to release the game with as poor performances as people are claiming to have.
