Ryan "Icculus" Gordon [Official Site, Twitter], the man responsible for maintaining many development tools like SDL 2 and who ported many games to Linux, is looking for new games to port. The fun thing is, he doesn't require payment since he's funded by his Patreon.

He's had contracts with Valve, Epic Games, Activision, Google, Crytek and plenty more. He has a lot of awesome work under his belt!

From his new post:
Quote[…]If there's a developer that you think would be interested in getting a Linux port done by a guy that they don't have to pay, let me know. Hell, let them know about me! Let's see if we can get some conversations going with some developers that are sitting on the fence!

This is a pretty interesting way to get Linux ports done. Ryan has hit over $750 a month on Patreon now, so any ports he does as a result of this directly, will be funded by his Patreon, not the original game developer.

I've seen the discussion of crowdfunding Linux ports come up here and there, but this is one of the times that it might work. So, if you know any, send the developer to him and we may see more Linux games get ported as a result.

Will be very fun to see what comes out of this. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: johndoeSomething off topic but interesting...

Icculus did ports for Activition and EA. Read here > Icculus homepage.
Some Call of Duty series "Server" and Medal of Honor series "Server" for Linux. But he was not contracted to do the Client ports.

No wonder! Windows would not be able to work out the load compared to Linux:D
As always... Linux makes the job but is not allowed/worth it to play:(

Based on the content of Icculus' résumé and sensible suggestions of suitable games, i.e. not Bethesda/Blizzard/Rockstar who I'd consider as large and non-Linux-friendly publishers, here are some more recommendations:

Shadow Warrior 2 (these guys promised Linux release, and haven't delivered yet)
Elite Dangerous
Subnautica
Legend of Grimrock 2
Killing Floor 2 (noting that Icculus did the port of 'Killing Floor' )
Inside (noting that Icculus did the port of 'Limbo' )
PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds (noting that Icculus did the port of 'Rocket League' - different company, but similar league of game and incredibly popular)
NieR Automata
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Banished
Astroneer
Divinity: Original Sin 2

Most of those I'd get myself, if they "landed" on Linux.

Quoting: Feist"Grim Dawn". Diablo/Viktor Vran-like game that is sopposed to be great. As far as I recall the developer said that a linux version was possible at some future date.

Grim Dawn would be a great option. It works in wine now I believe, but it was flaky for a long time.

Quoting: Feist"Kathy Rain" and "Technobablylon". Two adventure games with good reviews both were supposed to be ported to linux but for differing reasons the porting seems to have stalled indefinitely.

I wasn't aware of Kathy Rain. Looks interesting! Technobabylon I really enjoyed. It works with the Linux version of AGS, so it's a shame it didn't get official support.

I second Darksiders, they are already partially done. They were being worked on by one person as well. The company has shown an interest in porting them already.

No wishes, as I only know Linux games...

But I'd definitely appreciate a preference to support Developers/Producers that are open to release (also) DRM-free and on other stores than Steam....

ok, guys, don't take this the wrong way but most suggestions here are pretty ridiculous. I know we all might have one or a couple of AAA games in our wishlist, but let's think things over, this is a guy earning 750$ a month that won't see a nickle from sales, undertaking a titanic project that'd normally have a team dedicated to it (and still might have some problems at the end), we are virtually talking about slavery, this beside the fact that AAA games have the resources to pay someone to port their games, you can't just fix a lack of will.

It's clear this is meant for AA and indie games(preferably already fully released with no updates piped), one good suggestion I saw here was hat in time as (according to said poster)they were already trying to make the linux port and were having trouble with it.

Quoting: onibakumanI feel like it would make more sense to go for porting the major game engines as opposed to one off games. Imagine if unreal engine had Linux support. It would be insane and we could recycle a bunch of code.

Uhm... Unreal Engine does have Linux support. In fact it's had Linux support since Unreal Tournament. Doesn't mean all the companies making Unreal Engine games want to support Linux. In fact Unreal Engine 4 now has a 'compile for Linux' option, last I heard, much like Unity.

I got a bunch of unreal engine books off of humble bundle, and maybe in the year 2030 when I have some time, I'll build a game out of it... :P
