Saints Row IV [Steam] has just been updated to include proper Steam Workshop support, but the kicker is that it only supports Windows. VP will need to update the port to work with it.

Noted at the bottom of the news post was this:
Quote* Please note that only the Windows version of Saints Row IV PC is currently compatible with Workshop. We hope to announce Linux support soon.

This is part of the problem with outsourced ports, the Linux versions are often left behind while they wait on the porting company to update them. VP isn't alone in this, other porters are often playing catch-up too.

I reached out to my contacts at Virtual Programming, but they were unable to comment on it right now. I will keep in contact with VP about this and update you when I have more. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I was about to buy the game since it is on sale, but a LOT of people are having trouble with saves. I once lost 45 hours in Batman AC because of a such bug, so I'm not touching this until the fix this problem.

According to the Steam forum, this is already fixed.

I own it and never had any troubles with saves. However it is not very well optimized...

Hopefully they fix the cross platform multiplayer in the same update.

Quoting: GuestI played Saints Row IV to the end a few months ago and had no issue with it that I can remember. And it wasn’t hard to configure it to reach 60 FPS with good graphics (on a Core i5 / GTX 660).
Hmmm that is interesting. I guess having in mind current price it is good idea to buy the game now, just to support VP, even if I may not even start the game (except one time, just to make sure it is counted as Linux sale)

The original Windows port isn't great though, and this is even more evident on Linux. Sure it looks fine and runs okay on my i7 + GTX 960, but I pretty much need to give up on AA and post-processing effects to get rid of occasional fps drops and minor visual glitches. Plenty of fun for a few euros anyway. More pros than cons in my book.

Really? Did you actually measure the framerate, or were just eyeballing it and wishing it was 60? Or were you playing at 1280x720 (or even lower)? I have an i5 / GTX 970, and even on the lowest settings (still at 1920x1080), it would drop down into the 40s on Linux. On Windows it stayed over 100 FPS, and even back when I had a GTX 660, it stayed over 60 at all times on Windows. I'd say it was a pretty lousy port.

I think it varies a lot depending on hardware. I didn't check FPS but I played through the whole thing at 1920x1080 on high settings (not maxed out but pretty high) and didn't have any issues. There was some stuttering here and there but not bad at all. AMD FX 8350, GTX 980, SSD

The saving problem came with the Workshop patch, it was fixed quickly.
