Salt and Sanctuary is a very stylish looking 2D action RPG with haunting visuals and fast paced combat. Looks like Ethan Lee is having a go at porting it.

Very few games make me think "woah!" and this game certainly did. Ethan is offering no dates or promises, but he's getting to it:

QuoteNo timeline (or even any promises) but I'm looking at it now. May as well point it out since my name's green now... >_>

Also mentioned to me on twitter:

@gamingonlinux Yeah, I'm looking at it. That's all we know right now.

Hopefully it will turn out to be easily portable!

About the game

Salt and Sanctuary seamlessly combines fast, brutal, and complex 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics. Discover, craft, and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items as you explore a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, desecrated monuments, and the fallen lords they once celebrated.

Knowing Ethan, it'll be done in a week, tops :D

But seriously, I'll definitely pick it up when if and when it comes out for Linux.

Some magazines said this game is like a 2D Dark Souls game...

Very interesting

I am so hyped for Salt and Sanctuary. This, along with Eitr, will be the closest that us Linux users will get to Dark Souls for the foreseeable future.

Hmm, looks fun, and I do love me some Dark Soulsian action :) Though, something about the protagonist designs seem a bit too cartoony to me? 0.o

Edit: Upon closer inspection it's really just their faces that put me off. Looks almost kind of anime? And despite some character showing some facial stubble they all look 12 o3o

Edit²: Woah, on even closer inspection they've got really weird eyes and no nose 0.0

Edit3.0: OR EARS 8U

I've watched a lot of this on streams, and it's very much like Dark Souls. The bonfires, the messages from other players, the weapon progression, they're all there in some form. There are some really cool twists on the concept though, and honestly as Dark Souls as it may be, it has its own character. If you want a skill-based 2D fighter/platformer, this is pretty much the ideal.

I do not know what kind of anime you have been watching, but the faces have been likened to fish. The bit about lacking noses and ears seems to corroborate this.
