Seafaring strategy game Nantucket now has a beta for Linux

By - | Views: 8,400

Nantucket [Official Site] is a seafaring strategy game that will have you chase after Moby Dick, and live through the Golden Age of American whaling.

Just yesterday, the developer announced Linux (and Mac) beta versions. The Beta is open to anyone who already owns it, with no password required. You simply opt into the beta on Steam in the properties of the game. They are looking for testers, so check the announcement for more on that.

About the game:

Chase after Moby Dick, and live through the Golden Age of American whaling in this seafaring strategy game. Set sail around the world, manage your ship and crew, and live Ishmael's story, the sole survivor of the Pequod, a few years after the events narrated by Herman Melville in his masterpiece.

Set sail around the world, visit cities, and increase your prestige by hunting whales, landing jobs, and searching for new adventures. Develop your character in true RPG fashion, by increasing your stats, choosing your reactions, and developing your seafaring skills.

The Beta is Steam-only right now, if you want a copy you can pick it up from Humble Store or go direct to Steam. It's also on GOG, so hopefully the Linux version will be on there when it's ready.

Looks like another card battling game. :p

Where's my updated version of Sid Meier's Pirates!

Heck, just give us the 2004 remake with a little HD spit and polish, and I'll be happy.

I want an updated version of Broadsides by Broderbund.

For those of you unfortunate enough to have not played this fantastic game; think boat ship war simulator... you could target sails, hull, canons, etc. You could even board and sword fight.

Sounds great. I'm a big fan of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Mauturin series, and I'd love a good swashbuckling game that allows me to unleash my inner Lucky Jack.
