Shallow Space is being turned into an open world space sim, check this new video

Shallow Space was already a pretty cool space strategy game, but it's going through a bit of an overhaul at the moment to greatly expand it.

You can buy it now for a taster of what's to come. They still have quite a bit of work ahead of them until the overhaul is released by the sounds of it.

You can see a lengthy Steam post here on what's going on with the overhaul. The developer is essentially making they game they want to play, rather than trying to go down the route of what's "popular":
