The fun and charming platform inspired by 8-bit era visuals has gotten a shiny new campaign. This isn’t the only major addition and there’s plenty other new content available to enjoy.

Shovel Knight [Official Site] distinguishes itself from the pack of other retro-inspired platformers by being a very polished experience that also isn’t afraid of doing its own thing. It’s a blast to play and since its launch we’ve had more free content added to the game, partly to fulfill stretch goals in its original Kickstarter campaign. This latest update adds another playable character and enemy from the main adventure, Specter Knight, and features unique gameplay and levels. Things like cooperative gameplay for the original Shovel Knight adventure, customizable sprites and new challenges have been added, as well.

You can see the full list of features and changes here.

Existing owners of the game get the Specter Knight expansion and all future expansions for free. The developer, Yacht Club Games, will also be releasing these expansions as standalone products for players who may only be interested in one campaign. As such, the main game has been rebranded as “Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove” and has gotten a price increase to account for all the future content.

You can grab Shovel Knight here and get both a Steam key and a DRM-free option. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Yay nice! Big ups to Yacht Club Games! Shovel Knight is one of my all-time favorite games, and the gameplay is different and fresh with Spectre Knight (as well as Plague Knight). Incredible that this is a free update to existing owners.
