Delver [Steam, Official Site] is a positively rated single-player first-person dungeon crawler, which has just today left Early Access. It has also seen the return of the SteamOS icon for it.

I actually spoke to the developer on Twitter to query what was happening with the Linux version, since it did support Linux it just didn't have a SteamOS icon. It's actually one of the games Valve removed the icon from some time ago, when they noticed a few games not launching correctly on SteamOS directly (even if it was fine on a "normal" Linux distribution).

The developer wasn't sure about shipping a JRE build with the game, so I quoted their tweet to get them a little exposure and a bunch of people offered their help. It seems the developer figured it out, so it now properly advertises Linux support once again with the SteamOS icon for the full release today—awesome!

Game Features:

  • A silky smooth mix of 90s FPS combat with classic RPG mechanics.
  • In these dungeons once you're dead you stay dead. Permadeath means that when you die, you begin each run into the dungeon anew.
  • Tough as nails gameplay will test your skills, no grinding will save you here.
  • A procedural dungeon that will keep you on your toes, no two runs will ever be the same.
  • Delicious chunky pixels!

You can find Delver on Steam or directly from their official site.

I think I'm going to pick this up. Maybe I'll try it after I beat bleed.

I don't love abundance of perfectly flat surfaces in my game graphics, but the actually good pixel art and lighting do wonders here.

I'm confused, I have owned this for a long time on Humble Bundle, but no updates since 2015. Is there actually an update?

The Steam version is updated but not on Humble. I expect the Steam release will always take precedence as it is the biggest market.

I have the Android version on my Humble account and that hasn't been updated either (although that seems to be for technical reasons)

I haven't touched this one in a while (like three years) and didn't even know it was sans icon. May have to give it a new run when I have time, because I remember it being a blast.

Oh well , not for me.
Still great news they released it on Linux.

Decided I'd grab it, via their website (which is cheaper) and that purchase actually goes via a Humble Widget, which gives you access to the DRM-free Linux, Mac, Windows, Android versions of the game (hosted by Humble), plus the Steam key.

I have tried this out on Android on someone else's phone, long ago. And I didn't especially like it on a phone touchscreen (It is a 3D action RPG requiring constant movement) but I think mouse + keyboard (or gamepad) will be much more enjoyable for me.

Is this the game with the minotaur that wipes the floor with you if you don't take the stairs quickly enough? I'm sure I played this aaaaaages ago and I wasn't even aware it was still in development. It's certainly in my library.

Ah, nevermind - I'm thinking of Barony, which I refunded due to mouse issues. It's also still being developed. Barony has multi-player, which could be quite nice, but the graphics are nowhere near as beautiful as Delver.

Will have to give this another try.

Hmm, it's not in the official store, and also not from the HIBs. Did you buy it from the developers directly at some point?

Would be bad if they sell you an outdated version via their web page....

Lol I've been playing Delver for a while now on Linux. I didn't even realize they took it off.
