Hello everyone, a little site update for you with a few adjustments to help make everyone's lives a little easier.

Mailing List
It was requested recently to enable a daily email of articles, for those that don't follow the RSS feed or any of our social networks. This is now possible! Head on over to the new Mailing List page (link available under time under the "Sections" drop-down on the navbar at the top). This feature is available to people not registered as well as registered users!

You can also find this feature in your User Control Panel.

And yes, the daily emails include an unsubscribe link that's instant with no annoyances and no crazy 12 step process to unsubscribe.

User Blocking
Also, the user blocking feature is now live. Also available in the User Control Panel on this page. A few people have requested such a feature and hopefully it will help keep the peace as we continue to grow. I fully appreciate not everyone will get along and you should have a little more control over what you see!

The blocking feature will block all comments, personal messages and forum topics from anyone in your blocked list. It will also block quotes that include them. However, it's literally impossible to block everything! If you have feedback on it, let me know! Basically, you shouldn't see any content from someone you block.

Note: The finishing touches are being done on the forum side for this, so currently replies from people blocked and quotes will still show up. That will be added in over the next few days.

You will not be able to send a new PM to someone who has you blocked and you will not be able to send a new PM to someone you've personally blocked. Getting it correct for the Personal Message system has been a tall task to get right, since multiple people can be in a single conversation. However, I think I have it down to a point where it won't be a problem. Especially since it won't list conversations with blocked users, nor will it notify you of any messages from a blocked person.

Note: You will still currently see messages from a blocked person inside a personal message, if they're not the main author of the message. That will come soon. Multiple user conversations are a tricky thing!

You will also no longer be able to even view a persons profile, if they have you blocked. They will also not show up in the User Search, if they have blocked you.

The blocking feature is experimental right now, if anything acts funky let me know. Bug reports can be sent to our gitlab, or email.

User Search
Also, we have a User Search feature (found under the Search drop-down on the navigation bar), if you're trying to contact someone, but can't find them then it might help.

Privacy Updates
I appreciate not everyone wants to be found and contacted. In the User Control Panel there's a new Privacy section, where you can disable being found in the user search and set your profile to private. A private profile will only be viewable to admins and editors, no one else.

You can also as of now disable getting Personal Messages from users on that page. If you choose to disable it, the option to send you a PM won't appear on your profile page, if people circumvent that and use the direct message link, that still won't work.

Enjoy! If you have any feedback at any time feel free to comment or to email me directly. Feature requests can always be sent directly to the gitlab (this site is under the MIT license).

I demand an update that lets us slap each other in the face over the internet.

As soon as I saw the comment from razing32 I thought of that video clip, Monty Python wins every day. :D

Liam there are certain members who should be protected from being put on any block lists, can you do that? have you done it already?

Yes! I demand to be seen and heard by any and all! Also I demand the largest trout!

Seriously, good features here, although I doubt I'll use them myself. I'm pretty good at ignoring annoying people. This isn't reddit or the other linux site, so the worst trolls tend to run foul of the moderators anyway and get a well deserved ban.

We each have the ultimate ignore function at our disposal already, it's called the power button, if I don't like something I just switch off my machine, walk away & do something else.

Liam should look into adding a Bozo Filter while he's at it.

Huh, when I add liamdawe to my block list, I can still see his articles, guess it only works on comments (j/k).

But that requires people to have a shred of self-discipline, and that is just too much to ask.

New features are always welcome. And remember people, one block a day keeps the trolls away :D
