Sounds like Killing Floor 2 won't come to Linux any time soon

Posted by , / 7826 views

Sad news here, as it seems Killing Floor 2 is not coming to Linux any time soon, despite previous rumours about it.

Back in February I reported on Knockout Games doing the port, as it was listed on their site and they confirmed it in a Tweet that was later removed.

However, earlier this month the developer posted this on Steam:

It is not something actively in development at this time, but our engine team continues to evaluate it as a potential task weighed against the rest of their workload.

It's a shame really, since Tripwire announced Killing Floor 2 back in 2014 with SteamOS support. They also told me they would be doing the Linux/SteamOS version themselves. Priorities change of course, but it's still a shame.

I'm guessing something didn't work out with the port Knockout Games was supposedly doing, so hopefully someone else (perhaps Icculus?) can do it, or they can do it themselves in future as originally planned.

Thanks for the tip, spidernet.

lucifertdarkWell I just saved myself £20 & removed it from my wishlist.

If you don't buy it within the next 4 days, you're only saving $12, because it's in the current Humble Monthly Bundle

RTherenAt least it runs great in Wine with 'dx10' option

And so you support Tripewire and her fib tactics.

I've got the game from Humble Monthly

Sad to hear this.
Didn;t they promise it in a kickstarter or something ?

I played KF2 a bit on windows but it was not very fun.
You had less control over maps , could not do a local server , the game would match make you versus VERY powerful players who had better stats and killed all the monsters before you could.

First one is still great in my opinion.

I'm as disappointed as you all, but KF1 was cross platform and it's a fantastic game, so it's a shame, but I don't hold ill will against Tripwire. Like Liam said, things change - they still gave us one great game

As far as I know all UE engines have linux support. The first engine even had glide support next to opengl. And the glide support (or glide itself) was superior to opengl.

I use Linux only, no Windows. Here's my money.... want it?
