Space Pioneer By Space Enigma Studios To Support Linux

By M@yeulC - | Views: 9,885
Hello there!

I want to talk to you about an other great game project on Kickstarter.

Space Pioneer, by Space Enigma Studios is an ambitious project, in early design phase. It has been developed in conjunction with a variety of scientists, writers, architects and real world astronauts and cosmonauts. Their goal is to make a game that is educational, fun to play and scientifically accurate.

Set in the 22nd century, the player will be given a spaceship, will be free to explore the universe, colonize planets and make contact with other civilizations.
There will be some RTS elements involved with colonization, mechanics to control entire fleets, as well as a third person wiew of your spacecraft to directly control it.
The game will be entirely DRM-Free, with both a single player and a multiplayer mode.

The emphasis is put on scientific accuracy (accurate theory, NASA and ESA data used to place stars), as well as freedom and artistic quality.

About Linux Support, I quote the FAQ :
QuoteWhat platforms can I play o n at launch?

If we reach our goal of 150,000 then we will release on Windows and Linux. If we go beyond that then we will announce more platforms under a section that we will entitle stretch goals.

Various numbers about the campaign :
Pledges range from $5 for a thank you, to $10,000 for, among other things, a physical copy of the game, a bunch of rare space goods, and a paid trip to the Mars 500 institute.
The cheapest pledge that includes a copy of the game is $30.
The fixed goal is $150,000, only $17,500 has been pledged so far. So, check it out! (At least for the artwork gallery) Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

wow, the dev team is crazy, real astronauts in the bottom part of the page !

pretty awesome how they support linux as main platform at par with windows.

This needs to be made and surpassed it goal and then get big companies like google + nasa to keep funding it.

Nice find :)

Although 'scientific accuracy' is we are nowhere near the technology to transport humans safely (at a somewhat practical cost) to even as far as Mars at the moment. High hopes for the 22nd century :)

An update has just been posted on their kickstarter campaign. The are going to make a video.
It seems that, like a lot of other good projects, they are not well prepared for their campaign. I have seen better marketing campaigns, and there is little communication on the subject.

Yes, but in this case, "Scientific accuracy" means accurate theories, they said they would update (if I remember well) the game when new ideas are published. And scientists indeed have high hopes for the next century ^_^
