Rocket League is way overdue, we all know that, but honestly I am fully expecting it to arrive with the patch due in September named the 'Rumble Update'. This update will come with a bunch of stuff including a new game mode.

I'm speculating of course, so don't take this as solid confirmation of anything. The evidence is starting to come together though and I will be extremely surprised if Linux isn't released with the Rumble update next month.

Every time Rocket League is updated on SteamDB, the Linux depot is now also updated and this has been true for about two weeks now. This is the single most activity the Linux side of RL has ever seen being pushed into branches on Steam.

Originally the Linux version sat in its own "steamos" branch, but it seems like it has been finally put into their main testing branch named "psyonix". Why else would this happen if not to ready it for release? You can see the named branches on this SteamDB page.

On top of that, the Director of Development at Psyonix tagged me in a tweet about the Linux version recently too:

@darkgallium @RocketLeague @thenaughtysquid We're working on it, can't reveal the date yet

They are still being careful not to give any indicators after their previous failures to get it out.

I'm going to be honest, due to how long we have been waiting my patience for it started to wear thin. Considering how much activity it's seeing on SteamDB right now I am getting excited again! I just hope my own excitement for it doesn't get squashed again.

The game still has a crazy amount of people playing, right now there's around forty-four thousand people playing. So at least we aren't getting the game when it's dead, we are getting a still very popular game.

I've been hangin' for this - let's hope it's real. I hope the delays have been related to cross platform multiplayer, and they will deliver.

Obviously, I hope it finally does release, even if I won't play it much. However, if it doesn't release with that update, I hope like hell that this is the last time the game gets a post on this site until the release actually happens. It doesn't deserve all this attention when there's never anything solid to actually report.

Like now, if I feel there's something worthy of reporting or some supporting evidence I will post about it.

A game with tens of thousands of players coming to Linux, that sure does deserve attention in my book.

Edit: Spelling error.

A good game is a good game. As long as this actually sees the light of day I couldn't give a crap that it was delayed.

All my Windows friends have got bored and stopped playing at this stage. The trouble with later Linux releases is that they arrive after the marketing and the hype. It doesn't have the same exposure as the windows release date and as such will likely see lower sales figures than if it was an earlier release, possibly discouraging further development on the Linux platform.

It's less of an issue with single player games, because the late release doesn't necessarily affect the quality of the game but with multiplayer games, if no-ones playing, you're stuck. And nowadays multiplayer games seem to have a lifespan of about a week.

I'm on the 'Meh' side of the fence here.

I was excited when I *first* read that Linux support was coming. Now, after having watched like 10 hours of it on YT it just bores me.

I'd consider a sale this year for 5€ but if not, then not.

To be honest, I don't think it's coming anyways.

Quoting: pythoneerDon't care anymore. The game was interesting when it was released. Totally lost interest in it – to be honest i really forgot the game altogether and i don't care in the 12th "soon to be released news" anymore. I am throwing my money at people who deliver – not just promising. If they finally release it – i don't care anymore.
I don't really understand why playing the game soon after release is better than playing it later... I mean, it's still the same game! Actually it's not the same, it's more than that, because it got many updates and they are still improving it.
There's also a lot of people playing it so it's not like you're gonna have trouble finding matches to play.

will try it when it comes out, but i'm not fond of the wait... its been really long over due

I don't want to get excited this time, I got disappointed so many times. I follow the SteamDB very regularly (it used to be everyday) since November and it's not the first time there is good signs, maybe those are better than before but I wouldn't bet on it.
