Steam beta will be out "fairly quickly"

GabeN of Valve has stated to GameTrailers that Steam will have BETA's out fairly soon.

Rumour is that the Steam console thingy was a plan to create a set of hardware specs that vendors could use to create their own Steam compatible consoles, so what you're saying is inline with that. There's mention in the video that such a thing could sit atop Linux or Windows if it ever happened (I finally got the video working).

I did a summary of Valve comments on the most recent Linux blog post a week or so ago. One of the things mentioned was that emailing them or putting a comment on there requesting beta access was enough to get "on the list".

Well it seems Counter Strike: GO might be getting a Linux client as on a windows install there is a linux32 bin folder...hmmm
