They Are Billions [Steam, Official Site] is a steampunk strategy game set on a post-apocalyptic planet and the developer seems keen on doing a Linux version.

The game is due out in Early Access this month, with a full release expected next year. It's from a developer who already has a Linux version available for a previous game too.

After getting the press details, I noticed it was announced for Windows, so when I spoke to the developer about a Linux version they said this to me:

They Are Billions is made with the same custom engine as our first title, Lords of Xulima which is available on Linux. Though there is no linux version available yet, we will attempt to bring out a linux version for They Are Billions as well sometime during or after the official release in 2018.

About the game:

They Are Billions is a strategy game in a distant future about building and managing human colonies after a zombie apocalypse destroyed almost all of human kind. Now there are only a few thousand humans left alive that must struggle to survive under the threat of the infection. Billions of infected roam around the world in massive swarms seeking the last living human colonies.

I'm pretty excited since I love strategy games and the setting sounds pretty interesting. While it is real-time, it will also allow you to pause the gameplay at any time to gather your thoughts and make some tactical decisions. In the pause mode, you will even be able to build structures and give out orders.

That trailer—wow, it looks really quite exciting don't you think?

Oh goodness, the same engine as Lords of Xulima which often gives me a blazing 5 fps.

I really hope they've worked on that a bit, the Linux port had terrible performance. Looking at their forums, I see Liam himself had drops to 10 fps during battles. Very frustrating.

I kinda want this.
But if a port is out of the question , then hopefully it will run on wine.
If not oh well.
