Sunken, a hardcore action RPG with random monsters and loot now on Linux

Sunken is a rather pretty looking action RPG that has random monsters and loot, permanent death and crafting of course.

Myself and Samsai both tested it (keys provided by the developer), and it seems to work pretty well for both of us.

It seems like it could be quite an interesting game when it's a bit further along in development. I enjoyed my little go in it, and I think the environment graphics and lighting are really quite good, but I would love to be able to zoom a little bit, and rotate the camera. I feel like that's a must in this type of game.

It's in Early Access, so don't go into it expecting a full and bug-free experience. One amusing bug is the ESC menu which tells you it's paused, but I could still move around.

About the game (Official)
An atmospheric, dungeon crawling ARPG with a touch of a Roguelike, “Sunken” is intended to be a marriage of genres. Focused on keeping the player on his toes, the game will explore crafting, looting, fighting and challenging gameplay through which a dark story is woven.

Oh, it's also on sale right now too, since it's the Steam Winter Sale.

It doesn't yet have the SteamOS icon, but I assure you it is on Linux they are just working out the last kinks before giving it the icon treatment. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

How playable is the game in its current state? Lots of loot? Locations?

The Steam link is usually at the end, so I almost missed it myself. It is mentioned at the very end of the article, for anyone else who might have missed it.

Game is still in early access, so beware.

So how does it compare to Diablo 3? That's pretty much my gold standard for the hack-n-slash genre, and while I regularly play Diablo 3 in Wine, I'd love to find a good native Linux alternative.

What's wrong with Torchlight 2? There are a lot of reviewers who think that it actually is the better game compared to Diablo 3.

They lie. It's an O.K. game but nowhere close to Diablo 3 in terms of innovation. It's too much stuck in the past and plays like an uninspired rehash of Diablo 2. Diablo 3 still feels new and fresh, partly because its core mechanics are amazing and partly because Blizzard hasn't stopped working on it since release.

Torchlight 2 is really well done, but there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It needs something more. I really want to like it, but it doesn't hold my interest like Diablo 2 did. Any Diablo-like game will need to convince me that it's better than Torchlight 2 (overcome that missing element that would keep my attention).
