Surreal Platformer Tulpa Now Available On Linux

A puzzle platformer with surreal imagery, Tulpa, was released late last month and almost flew completely under our radar. The game mixes highly contrasting colours, strange environments and moody music to an interesting effect which you can appreciate in the trailer below:

The gameplay, as described, is straightforward and the developers have emphasized that it is more of a puzzle game than outright platformer. It's not very long, either, being estimated at only taking about three or four hours to complete.

The imagery and ambiance of the game is what strikes me the most and its exploration of the real life concept of Tulpas might be of interest to some. It's great to get all sorts of different types of games on Linux, at any rate.

You can buy Tulpa on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Reminds me slightly of SPATE. Will definitely check this one out once I've cleared some more games off my backlog.

Ugh, trying not to prejudge it but when the trailer straight out says "Be memorized" I lol'd. Don't get me wrong, amongst my favorite games are some pretty strange games (Hotline Miami, The Swapper, Limbo, etc.), but then there are games like Spate. Games whose worlds feel fairly empty, where it feels like the world is being thought of as you go along; A walking slideshow of unrelated abstract art made to be "Woah"-ed before marching onwards.

Now, if people want to make/play those things, more power to them. However, I find them kind of uninspired (although this game in particular seems to borrow a lot from Limbo, a game that actually has a cohesive world) and not very engaging.

Well, I wish there were more games like Spate. Is definitely not a usual one, but it was a great experience for me. It's world's emptiness was exactly what I liked about it.
