PayPalThe Air Power update for the survival game Rust is now live, along with some big new features it also has improved Linux support.
As a little reminder, back in July last year Rust had the SteamOS/Linux icon removed from Steam as they were no longer officially supporting it. The main issues were from the Unity game engine and Facepunch had been unable to upgrade to overcome various Linux issues, until now! It's also worth noting, during this time the Linux version has still been updated alongside the Windows version.
In the blog post announcing the new update, they said this:
Our Linux and MacOS builds over the past 8 months have been in a rough state and in constant limbo due to we've been unable to update Unity. The good news is we've finally been able to update Unity which should resolve all the known issues with Linux and MacOS!

This is seriously good news, I know quite a few people enjoy playing it on our community-run server (thanks!). Thanks to this, I will likely hop on tonight to play with the community so do try to come and join in on the fun. Also, be sure to let Facepunch know if it's working better!
The update does add in some really fun sounding new features like Wireless Communication using new items like a Broadcaster, Receiver, Transmitter and a Pager. There's also some new electrical components like speakers and alarms.
One of the biggest additions is the minicopter, now two people can travel through the air in style. Well, as stylish as you can be with a bucket for a helmet that is.

One particular new item I'm quite excited about is the Player Sensor, allowing you detect how many people are within 10km from it. There's also new palm trees in the arid biome and the hemp plant went through a refresh, along with some optimisations to hopefully make the game perform better.
