Survival horror 'Darkwood' is getting ready to leave Early Access

By - | Views: 7,810
Another one ready to release! Darkwood [Official Site, Steam], a survival horror game that's actually quite impressive shall be leaving Early Access next month, August 17th to be exact.

There's also a live action trailer to celebrate, but who really cares about such things? Especially when it's less than a minute long.

It's probably better to take a look at their older gameplay video:

When you see "survival horror" you might think, oh god another survival game. However, Darkwood is different. This is a top-down horror where you scavenge through the day and try to survive just one more night. You're not entirely on your own either, you will meet different types of people and have interesting little chats.

I tested it out again today, as I always like to ensure what I write about still actually works well on Linux. The game crashed on me the first time, but the second time seemed to run pretty smoothly. The initial prologue is pretty interesting and extremely creepy. The whole world they've made is brutal and twisted. The woods have overgrown everything and there's some sort of plague infesting humans. I imagine that's where the creatures come from during the night, the infested people. The prologue ending certainly got my heart racing that's for sure.

I carried on a bit and the game continues to be both interesting and downright freaky. I met a fellow who seemed to look more like some kind of wolf, than a person. He kept referring to me as "Meat" too, which was a little concerning.

The game has an overall "Very Positive" rating on Steam, with very few negative reviews. I'm not surprised, good stuff!

If you're after a horror experience that's quite different, then it seems Darkwood is going to be a very safe bet to spend your cash on. A very well-crafted experience overall it seems!

Just be aware the release build probably won't be compatible with any current saved game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Curios about that crash you mentioned.
Wondering how stable it is overall.

Been following this for a long time just did not want to buy in EA.

Just checked out that game-play video: It does look good. I will keep an eye on this one.

From the Steam page, it says it is due to leave Early Access in August.

This game is _really_ good, I own it and played it a bit. I am too scared to continue, though, since horrors are not my thing :(
