For those wanting to colonise Mars, but you don't buy from Steam you can rejoice as GOG have announced they will have Surviving Mars too!

Surviving Mars is being developed by Haemimont Games, who are known for Victor Vran, Tropico and more. It's being given a publishing hand by Paradox Interactive (not to be confused with the Paradox Development Studio) and it's due for release on March 15th.

About the game:

Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.

It looks extremely promising and as a huge fan of city builders and strategy games, along with a healthy curiosity about other planets I'm pretty keen to see how it runs on Linux. I'm hoping to have some thoughts up on the day of release or shortly after.

You can pre-order it right now from GOG, or Steam—whatever floats your boat.

GOG links are affiliate links.

I dont use GOG however i dont like copyright and licenses with same idea. Also I have respect to that licenses some how DRM is about protecting developers from illegal distribution. So i dont care for drm. Also i like to support Steam and Valve so they get some cash how ever i didnt buy any valve products but others via valve's product.(steam) so i can see more Linux support by valve. There is alot of good things about this. Also i dont understand why gog didnt build any Linux client yet. SHAME!

*sigh* - that discussion again. So in short
DRM is a NO-GO for me, so no steam at all. It's GOG, or no sale (yes, also itch and (very) sometimes Humble, too)

GOG is a games shop. I want to buy games there. I don't want a client for that, so I don't care about Galaxy. The day they make Galaxy mandatory would likely be the day I stop buying there.

I rather prefer GOG doing things like giving Liam free keys for new linux games (does valve do that?) than programming such a client.

My 2¢

Quoting: GuestI don't understand this.
All Paradox games on steam are DRM free, no?

All the Paradox dev studio games are indeed, but they use Steam as their version control system from what I know (as you often see them load hot code version of their game from steam, during stream), which make game that are still in development quite a bit more work to port AND support on the same level they do on Steam. Also the oldest game since they adopted that system is still been developed, which is CK2 and if you check GOG you will see you will see pretty much everything before CK2 is there, except for Svea Rike series and for some unknown reason, Victoria II.

Oh heck yes!

I buy most of my Linux games via GOG.com these days (mostly because of the no-DRM thing), so it's great to see this game coming to GOG.com for Linux-based operating systems... Hopefully I can pick this up soon, because Surviving Mars is pretty high on my list of games I want to play.
