Terraria Now In Open Mac And Linux Beta

By - | Views: 12,532
I have received a word that Terraria's anticipated open Mac and Linux beta has now been released and you can now opt into it for some 2D survival/crafting fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7uOhFTrrq0

Since this is an open beta, the game doesn't yet have SteamOS icons or Linux+SteamOS system requirements on the store page. If you own the game (or decide to buy it now), you need to right-click the game on Steam and go to Properties->Betas and select the beta from there. I personally haven't tried the beta but I've heard from a couple of people that it's working fine.

About the game (From Steam)

Dig, Fight, Explore, Build: The very world is at your fingertips as you fight for survival, fortune, and glory. Will you delve deep into cavernous expanses in search of treasure and raw materials with which to craft ever-evolving gear, machinery, and aesthetics? Perhaps you will choose instead to seek out ever-greater foes to test your mettle in combat? Maybe you will decide to construct your own city to house the host of mysterious allies you may encounter along your travels?

In the World of Terraria, the choice is yours!

Blending elements of classic action games with the freedom of sandbox-style creativity, Terraria is a unique gaming experience where both the journey and the destination are completely in the player’s control. The Terraria adventure is truly as unique as the players themselves!

Are you up for the monumental task of exploring, creating, and defending a world of your own?

Key features:
- Sandbox Play
- Randomly generated worlds
- Free Content Updates

You'll need to opt into the beta on the properties tab of Terraria before downloading the game.

You might want to embolden that info - the opt in is [mac-and-linux-open-beta]

Downloading. :D

Edit: Seems to work, but there's no music.

Runs well, no music though as has already been said. Word from steam forums is a patch to fix that is already in the works.

The music works for me (yeey!) but the game runs very very slow

EDIT: Nevermind, I set the launch options to use the Nvidia card (Yeah, I am using a laptop) and everything works fine

On a side note, the game sucessfully loaded my old save from Wine and the even older one from Windows (about 2 years old)

Unfortunately it also awarded me a lot of achievements when I loaded those saves. So don't try this if you want to start doing all the achievements from zero

The game is very slow on an Intel HD 4400, running at 1080p. It may be optimized, as the first release of Starbound was also very slow, but now running smoothly.

Night came, and I got killed by a flying eyeball. My 8-year-old daughter laughed at me.

Works fine here at resolution 2560x1440 60FPS with music sounds and everything...... but unfortunately I am not into survival games...I find them boring... or I am quite lost :(
Just to show you how good I am at survival games I have even tried ARK Evolved but in the next 5-10 mins I am bored or lost to death........ I guess is only me and Zorro :D View video on youtube.com

Oh well here is a screenshot of Terraria at 2560x1440 60FPS

Had some trouble with lag when hosting a multiplayer game, although my brother (Windows user) says this is common on Windows hosts too.

Besides that, I'm really enjoying what the game has become since the last time I played (two years or so ago)
