The Dwarves [GOG, Steam, Official Site] is the fancy looking fantasy RPG from KING Art that arrived on Linux with a day-1 release today.

I have requested a review key, so we will see what happens.
Update: My key was approved in record time, nice. Will post thoughts after I've put some time into it.

I think it looks and sounds fantastic, so I am looking forward to giving it a really good go! Tyranny has given me an appetite for RPG games once again.

About the game
The Dwarves is a fantasy role-playing game with a strong story and tactically challenging real-time battles. 15 playable heroes, each with individual skills, are to be deployed cleverly. Take on superior numbers of orcs, ogres, älfs, bögnilim, zombies, dark mages and many more foes, to give them the low-down.

Based on the bestselling novel “The Dwarves” by Markus Heitz you’ll experience a fascinating tale revolving around the coolest fantasy race ever: The Dwarves! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

A game I'll probably get in the future, but it's too close to the release of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. I hope it's good.

Quoting: archmage24601For any who have played Dragon Age: Origins, how similair is it? I've been looking for a good RPG like that for a while.

I just started playing it. From the looks of it, mechanics are nowhere as complex as in Dragon Age: Origins or even more hardcore RPGs like Baldur's Gate. Things are pretty streamlined so far. I didn't even see any stats or anything of the sort. Still, the game is very enjoyable.

Unlike RPGs with character creation, this follows an existing story and defined characters, so it's more similar to The Witcher in this aspect (not in the gameplay though). It's also based on the book. I call such games adventure-RPGs, since adventure games usually have a predefined character to play as.

During traveling, story selection reminds me of story screens in Pillars of Eternity.

regarding how it runs on radeonsi, I had some odd difficulties getting the game to load. I then updated to the latest git again, and updated from 4.8.7 to 4.8.11 kernel.
Turns out 4.8.11 kernel is borked, and could not get anything to work, (including other games which used to work fine)
I then tried downgrading the kernel again, and everything started working again.

For performance, it is reasonably smooth considering my GPU. I can run it at 1600x900 on medium (I think they call it good?) on my mobile 7700.

The game isn't without its bugs, such as when I start the game it is in english, and then a few minutes later everything is in german again... So I can't quite get into the game as I have no idea what is going on :-(

The soundtrack is quite pleasant. I like the song which plays during traveling.

Quoting: Xpanderyou can play just dwarves? :(

i dont like dwarves.. i would like to play as an orc and eliminate dwarves :D
The Orcs are weak, you want to play as Älfar if you want to kill dwarves in Girdlegard ;P
