After a slight delay, GOG now has the damn good six-degree-of-freedom shooter 'Overload' on their store along with the Linux version.

As usual, GOG sent over a copy for me to test and ensure it all works correctly. I've got some bad news—I have nothing to complain about. They don't seem to have relied on Steam or Galaxy for multiplayer, so the release comes complete. I've tested the online multiplayer in the GOG version myself and it works fine.

I said before in the previous article, I'm shocked by the quality of Overload. Fantastic combat, it looks good and now everyone can enjoy it DRM free too.

So you can now grab it on GOG or Steam.

Good. This is an area that is sorely lacking in GOG Linux games.

Descent was one of my favourite games in the early 90s, now it's back twice, Descent Underground is the other one, BUT it's not anywhere near as good as Overload, if anyone is trying to decide between them go with Overload.

I didn't play Descent back in the day, but I recently made a snap of d1x-rebirth and have been having a blast with the shareware version. It is a very good game but I've realised I can't navigate well in 3 dimensions. I spend most of my time getting lost in corridors I've already cleared.

I don't know whether this modern version would suit me better?

One thing this game has, is a special probe-like thing that can help you navigate in single-player, plus a map you can bring up. I'm usually the same as you, but thanks to those I've had no problems :)

Gave the game a go before bed, first thing I tried was Multiplayer and got my ass kicked *moderately*. Performance is bloody good and controls are fluid. I noticed that on the main menu it still says "Development Build" on the GOG version, not sure if it's the same on Steam, build is 1.0 1818.

yeah it's the same on Steam, maybe that means they're not finished adding to it, level editor to come soon perhaps?

Gave this a shot. Addictive to say the least, it's like quake with ships. The controls are a bit to get used to (what satanic person made inverted mouse a default!). Thankfully it can be turned off but doesn't appear the auto rolling adjustment can. You can adjust it with R and W but not disable.

Having never played Descent, the close quaters can be a bit to get used to, too. Almost need a large sandbox-ish kind of map for newbs to practice in. Overall pretty fun though once you get used to it. Haven't tried it in VR yet.
