Vikings - Wolves of Midgard [Steam] suffered a small delay in the Linux version, but this hack and slash RPG is now officially available for Linux.

Note: GOG doesn't currently have the Linux version, only Steam right now.

We've had to wait a couple months for the Linux version, but I'm pleased to see it released so that we don't have to chase them down for information. Kalypso Media are proving again they're a pretty good publisher of Linux games, which makes me happy.

The game has mixed reviews overall, however, I will reserve my own thoughts until I can play it. I've now put in a key request, so hopefully we will be able to cover it properly soon.

About the game
QuoteThe Action RPG Vikings – Wolves of Midgard takes you to the Shores of Midgard, a world based upon the mythology and history of the Vikings, but with a fantasy twist. Battle the fearsome Jotan, hordes of terrifying undead monstrosities and the beasts of Ragnarok, as you strive to survive the growing cold that threatens to end all life, forever. Master mighty weapons, including sword and shield, two-handed hammers, dual-wielded axes and swift bows. Earn blood in battle to offer in tribute to the Gods in order to acquire and enhance devastating Spell Powers and other special unlockables.

Quoting: Avehicle7887So far the games ruined by the lack of Galaxy were not in my best interest, this one however is, so hopefully it will make it to GOG.

I asked Kalypso (the publisher) via Twitter about a GOG release of the Linux version. They answered, it will only be available on Steam. :(

Currently I (and some other users according to the steam forum) have problems downloading the game. Steam currently provides only the bonus content, but no game files. If anyone has the same problem: Devs will give feedback tomorrow (says Kalypso).

That's bad. I found the link, though they don't explain exactly what the blocker is. But it must be Galaxy.

Can you please ping them on Twitter about why they can't release on GOG? They didn't answer that question on the forum.

I had the very same question already about Tropico 5. As far as I understand, it is the developer who decides, whether a linux port is made available on other places additional to Steam. And for the devs it is easier to upload future updates only to Steam instead of need to deal with other services too. And especially GOG-releases needs a little bit more effort, as far as I understand.

Quoting: KuduzkehpanDiablo 3 is action rpg with looting frenzy mechanics. Modable skills. And a good company. Blizzard
Still many diablo fan players left it.

And many more stayed. It is, in fact, one of Blizzard's most successful games to date. There's a reason they're still actively developing it and releasing paid content 5-years after release.
Because of good marketing. But biggest part of userbase existed because of in game auction house and paypal colloboration. My friends earned over 2k euro from loot selling. However still Diablo 3 worst than diablo 2.

That really doesn't explain Diablo 3's continued success and profitability.

It's Blizzard. I think that pretty much explains it.

Blizzard fans are oddly almost as bad as Apple ones. Besides, of course they support it 5 years after release. Overwatch I think was their first original IP in... what 20 years? They pretty much have Diablo, StarCraft and WarCraft and now Overwatch.

Now all they need to do is create System of StarCraft and they'll be set for the next decade of money making joy. I actually worked with a guy who had spent more than 10k USD on World of WarCraft...

Personally one of my favorite action RPGs is Sacred (the first one, for some reason the second one is just not balanced very well so ends up being rather boring, even if it is beautiful. You only very rarely get that 'oh god, I almost died!' feeling that is all over the place in Diablo 1 and 2 and Sacred.)

To be fair, I did play Diablo 3 in Wine for a short time, but it didn't even draw me back in long enough to get to level 10 that the free version provides.

Apparently the problem is fixed. I can download the game now.

Just for the record; Vikings were really peace loving, poor, starving farmers..Otherwise Balder wouldn't have been the most revered respected God of Norse mythology..Tor was simply a haughty jackass..

Very sad... I don't care about Galaxy, i really do. But i start to hate GOG because of lack of it on Linux if we can't have some games... And i don't like very much these devs who have this only "excuse", no matter it's easy or not.
:(
