The impressive ATOM RPG is to leave Early Access on December 19th

Posted by , | Views: 6,217

After little over a year in Early Access after a successful Kickstarter campaign, the surprisingly impressive ATOM RPG is about to release in full.

Mark December 19th on your calendar, as ATOM RPG seems to have a few surprises ready for the full release. This will include a third global map, which takes place in a mutant-ridden metropolis named Dead city; plenty of new NPCs and quests; you can drive cars across the wasteland; new dungeons to explore; new traits for characters and a new end-game cinematic.

For anyone who purchased during Early Access, they will be given a special "veteran’s kit" as well, although no details on what it is.

I'm quite excited to jump into the full game. One time I'm more than happy to be surprised, I honestly didn't think it would end up as good as it is. Players on Steam seem to agree with me too, with it sitting at a "Very Positive" rating overall with the recent set of reviews being "Overwhelmingly Positive".

Hopefully the full release isn't the end, would be great to see them continue to expand this one it feels like a game that deserves plenty of attention from players, while also seeing a long and healthy lifespan with updates.

You can find ATOM RPG on Steam.

I'm waiting for the real reviews, I've grown tired of indie games that just ended up being a game "with potential".

But yeah, if this one delivers on the promise it's an obvious purchase. I love everything about it except for the perspective, and that I can live with :-)

Reminds me of Wasteland 2 a lot (visually) and a bit of Planet Alcatraz (an old Win-only atmospheric and very Russian game so I wouldn't recommend it to non-natives even though it worked perfectly on Wine years ago). I'm very happy to see such a successful project from my fellow compatriots, especially after the big Insomnia letdown. These guys did a proper Early Access and it helped them to iron out the bugs before the release, that's how it should be. I'm not a fan of story-driven games going through Early Access because it's like getting spoilers so I'm grateful to those who helped to test the game. A sure buy on release for me.

I've played about 35 hours of it, I think from two early playthroughs - so I guess other than the endgame/plot end I've played through most of it, and thoroughly enjoyed it - essentially, it's very much in the style of Fallout 1/2, Wasteland 2 sort of thing - so if you enjoyed any of those, I'd recommend it. There's a few playthrough videos on Youtube if you want a better sense of it - but yeah, I've ended up with a few too many unfinished games "with potential", but I think, unless they screw up the ending, this one is better than that

Beambooma game "with potential".

That was ATOM. Last year.

Now it has reached its potential, and it's great since already several months. I'm waiting for the full release to start a new game, but i really enjoyed what i saw in my previous, unfinished, campaign.

I am a big fan of Fallouts 1 & 2.
Wasteland 2 is also nice.

Confused a bit about that statement.
I recall touching Planet Alcatraz a bit back in the day.
What makes it "very Russian" ? Poor translation ?

Guestas it obviously will appeal to ppl who enjoyed Fallout in the late 90s, does it include interesting and well written narrative ?

On the whole, I'd say yes. Some of the English translation was a little weak in the earlier versions, but I think it's mostly been sorted out - but there's also some really richly developed characters and side quests - I found it successfully managed to be worrying, shocking, funny, kind etc at different points, as you'd hope from a well written narrative. It's not perfect by any means - some of the conversation seemed a little flat in places, but I think on average it was good enough.

As said, I'd played through earlier versions, so I'm not sure how the plot rounds off at the end (I'm waiting for the release version for a new full playthrough) - but what I'd gone through so far felt well written and interesting on the whole. You can probably watch through a 1hr "let's play" video without spoiling too much plotwise, but should give you enough of a sense of the writing etc.

The world itself is well written, if that makes sense - the scenario is quite different from Fallout/Wasteland, but it's one that works, and I think has a well-rounded atmosphere and, compared to Fallout, a sort of more believable reality to it.
