Remember Chained Echoes? It's a fantasy 16-bit RPG with dragons, airships and mech units that sounds crazy when put together but it does look good. It's also now fully funded!
Take up your sword, channel your magic or board your Mech. Chained Echoes is a 16-bit SNES style RPG set in a fantasy world where dragons are as common as piloted mechanical suits. Follow a group of heroes as they explore a land filled to the brim with charming characters, fantastic landscapes and vicious foes. Can you bring peace to a continent where war has been waged for generations and betrayal lurks around every corner?
If you've not seen it before, do check out the below video as it seriously has me excited:
Here's the highlights of what it will have:
- 20-25 hours of play time
- Fast paced turn-based battles
- No random encounters; enemies can be seen running around
- Tons of items to be looted, stolen or crafted
- Complex skill and equipment system
- Customize your own airship
- Travel and fight by foot or in your Mech
- 16-bit SNES style graphics
- Music inspired by PSX RPGs
The Kickstarter campaign finished yesterday, with a final total of €130,409 from 4,655 backers which is a pretty decent sum. This means they not only smashed through their original goal, they also unlocked a few of their stretch-goals to include more characters, more localizations, a New Game+ mode and so on.
Having a Linux version of Chained Echoes was included in their original funding goal, so when it releases sometime in 2021 we should hopefully see no issues. A lot can change in that time, so I will keep an eye on it.
