The latest update and brand new trailer for 'Vintage Story' look fantastic

By - | Views: 21,970

With a survival experience that's so crammed full of features you're likely to get lost for weeks, Vintage Story has always looked pretty good. Recently though? They turned it up a notch or two.

Version 1.12 went out this month as a major update focused on adding more visual flair including new animations, more reflective surfaces, a new personal-damage overlay effect, a rework of clouds (and they sure do look pretty), cold regions will see an aurora borealis effect, armour stands, performance improvements and various other tweaks to really make it something quite special.

I do suggest checking out the brand new trailer below too:

I feel like I now actually need this. All the different wildlife running around like Hares that steal your carrots, the smithing that has you actually hammer something into the world rather than use a menu and so on—all those details are awesome. Amazing what a small indie team can do and they're trying to make it full-time too, so if you like the look of it now is a good time to pick it up since it's fully cross-platform.

You can pick up a copy from Humble Store, the official site and itch.io.

The fact is not on Steam, keep me away from the game. But before anyone jumps into the "you are a Gaben Fanboy", I just think that the third party between Devs and consumers is quite necessary.

It looks really good, maybe I'll check it out on Itch.io, I had never bought a game there, this could be my first.

Edit: It seems it is not my type of game, more of exploring, survive, build, I expected some sort of Minecraft with story...

I think we need our own server for this game! I've played for a bit, but it would be more fun together. Can we make some kind of a poll to see even roughly how many of us are here? I'm willing to host it

I've been looking for a server to join that hasn't been built up yet, so I'd definitely be down for it! I've been playing single player a lot lately, but it definitely is better played with others. (Not that SP is bad by any means, though!)

The "Inspired by Proteus" surprised me. I don't know a lot of people who have also played that. It's a little more...benign than the forces at work in this game though.

I bought the game the last time it was featured here. I'm still sinking countless hours in it. It's so much fun, there's so much to do. The game is not Minecraft, its really different, but still... once you played it, there's no going back to Minecraft.

Also, as a physical geographer, I really appreciate all the thoughts that have been put into making the world realistic and rather believable. The geology is very good, with the distribution of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary layers of rock. I've been running around the world and sometimes have flashbacks of places I've been in real life. Even though it's a voxel game, the ambience is that good.

It’s simply the best game of its genre. Buy it, play it. Now.

This looks fantastic. What i can't see are quests. Are these coming as well?

Between me and the kids, I'd have to buy several copies. That's the only thing holding me back thus far. Maybe I can convince them to use birthday money they get from others. ;)

Bought and played this over two years ago, and even then it was already quite impressive. I should go back.
