The Original Strife: Veteran Edition is apparently the original hybrid of FPS and RPG games. It has been revamped, and placed onto Steam. The engine is even open source and included with the game.

We spoke to one of the developers who cleared this up about the engine:
The engine used is actually open source and based on "Chocolate Strife", Night Dive Studios actually employed the original Chocolate Strife developers to do it, and keep it open. You have to love that!

About the game

I've definitely heard of Strife, but I always thought it was just another generic Doom clone.

Also, GamingOnLinux has pretty hair and smells kinda nice.

WOW! I NEVER thought this game would get rereleased, let alone on linux! This was one of my most wanted older PC games, along with 'Outlaws' and 'Interstate 76'.

Love is an interesting word. Despite the context in which you can describe or relate to it, it's ultimately referring to a connection of importance.

So with GOL, the reason why I enjoy/appreciate visiting here (multiple times a day, as StianTheDark has aptly expressed) is because of the things I love. I love games, I love the existence of Linux; it's philosophy and the global effort put in to develop it as it is now (and the fact that I believe Linux is best O/S for the future), the openness of the community and...it's silly to say but Linux is the underdog to some extent.

Despite the multitude of reasons, I appreciate GOL for being part of that. :)

I know this is not the most fun/playful way to answer the question but it's the truth that I feel...and this is the basis of answering this question any/every time it comes up.

Honestly, the key is not important....I just thought to express this to everyone here at least once. :p

I Hate Playing Games...

I hate playing games...

Lost in a Virtual World
Often distorted...
Villains everywhere..
End? there is no end to this endless nightmare..

Games so complex..
Anger,rage,grief,hate
Mourning the loss of my friends..
I hope that sometimes this will have an end
No never, it just never ends...
Gaming forever in blue screens, is that my destiny?

Once upon a time, the prophecy has foretold
Nux Will Rise,Nux Will save you

Lies all lies , there is no such thing!
If it has been true, where is Nux, Who is Nux?
No time for this, many years have passed
Unknown is the future,Unknown is my destiny
X is the mark of the beast's tail that will save us...

Many of us are not believers
Everyone lost their faith
Roaming in darkness
Roaming for hope
You have to believe

X is our savour
Must be true
All of you
Say and praise his name.....

(a bit of concept of Stanley Parable :P)
