The Pirate: Plague of the Dead [Steam], from developer Home Net Games, looks like it will have a Linux version at launch.

To get the elephant in the room out of the way first, this will be a free to play title with micro-transactions. I'm always really iffy about these sorts of games but their previous game, The Pirate: Caribbean Hunt was exactly the same and is reviewed positively overall. That's a good sign that they might at least know what they're doing.

Feature-wise it sounds pretty packed full of goodies. It will offer a full campaign, an open-world sandbox like experience, a day and night cycle, a weather system along with all the usual features like trading, ship upgrades and so on.

Thanks for the tip HardPenguin!

Their previous game from the series was actually pretty fun - microtransactions are all optional as you can play the game completely in singleplayer. So until we get other naval titles, this one should provide some quality entertainment :)

This game looks nice but we need World of Warships! And possibly World of Tanks too.

I've played their last game it's fun, graphics are good, but the maps are somehow small.

Their previous game seemed rather boring to me, but hey, don't look a gift seahorse in the mouth, eh?

I'm a bit iffy on the whole Single-Player microtransactions.
I get the business model in Multi-Player , makes sense there.

Did you ever play Knights of Pen and Paper (av. on Linux and Android)?
Fun SP game, paid, still has microtransactions. But hey, I don't know anyone who use them!

P.S.: don't get me wrong, I don't approve microtransactions in SP games, especially in paid ones.
