The RPG 'Underworld Ascendant' will be on Linux 1-2 months after release

By - | Views: 11,960

OtherSide Entertainment sadly won't be getting the Linux version of Underworld Ascendant on Linux at release.

It's still coming though, it just needs a little more time. On Twitter, they mentioned "the Mac and Linux versions around 30-45 days after launch to make sure they have the attention they need". They also said they're looking for testers, so naturally we've reached out to let them know we're available.

Delays happen, sadly. With our market share this is bound to happen, the good news though is they obviously sound quite positive about it. Pushing out a Linux version you haven't had much time to test just isn't a good idea. The Linux version has been available during the beta period, but it seems it has some bugs holding back the full release for us.

You can follow it on Humble Store and Steam.

Quoting: bradgyOh wow, this is Paul Neurath's company? He made the first game I ever played, way back on the Commodore 128 :)

That's odd... I never heard about that game. I had a Commodore 128 as well even though I started transitioning to IBM compatibles at the time. I was a big fan of Origin (the publisher) back then as well thanks to the Ultima series and AutoDuel. (And of course, the majority of games ran in Commodore 64 compatibility modes; very few games were 128 only.)

Quoting: NeverthelessThe backer build is running reasonably well on Linux. So I hope there shouldn't be too heavy technical problems in the way..
I backed this, can't remember if I got in on the beta or not though! Will have to check through my emails.

Ultima Underworld is still one of the greatest games ever made.

Very true! You have to check https://underworld-ascendant.backerkit.com/ for your key.
Btw. They are still looking for testers!

Makes me think of Arx Fatalis more than Ultima: Underworld. Looks good!

WOW!
What a bunch of "We want DRM-free but if not GOG then we want Steam!" freaks. They sure are quick to abandon their "DRM-free facade" and show true colors (namely, being "GOG fanatics").

Somehow, I'm feeling ashamed for their behavior. :'(

My backlog will get me through a nuclear winter so delays are fine with me. Just want to enjoy the finished product.

Sweet, found my Steam key and installing the full game under Linux (it didn't say anything about beta).

Initial test; it's buggered! Narfed screen during character creation, then it gets worse from there, graphical corruption pretty much anytime something moves, and when you're finally in the game you get a black screen with a dot and some text / voice. Voice acting with that little bit is good at least, sometimes games have the worse voice actors.

Same for me!
Funny thing is, I actually played the backer build, without bigger issues.. So maybe the full version is completely raw yet.
