The T'au invade Warhammer 40,000: Gladius in a new expansion out now

Posted by , | Views: 13,280

Proxy Studios and Slitherine yesterday released a big new expansion for Warhammer 40,000: Gladius focusing on the T'au race, as they've joined the fight for the domination of Gladius Prime.

Never have the T’au been so close to extinction. Your homeworlds are surrounded. The Swarm, the machines, the barbaric humans. To ensure the survival of the T’au, The Fourth Expansion was launched to claim rich new worlds. Yet the warp swallowed the T’au. Your ship emerged alone near a war-ravaged, alien planet. This was not the paradise promised. But you will conquer it. For the T’au, for the Greater Good.

With 31 new units, they come ready to pack a punch too. They're a technologically-advanced race after all so that's not surprising.

Since they're a new race to the game, they come with their own special gameplay style as well, here's a highlight of what to expect:

  • Convert Auxiliaries - One of the most powerful weapons of the T’au is their ability to seek new allies. They are able to spend influence to convert certain neutral units like Kroot Hounds and the brand new Vespid Stingwing to their cause.
  • For the Greater Good - The core philosophical concept at the heart of the T’au. Demoralize your opponents and reduce their units’ morale to 0 by spending influence. Proselytise and immediately gain population in your cities.
  • Subversion - Turn your enemies’ servants against their masters. Through precise use of propaganda, you will be able to cripple the loyalty of enemy cities.
  • Battlesuits - A T'au Battlesuit is an advanced powered combat exoskeleton that forms an integral part of the T'au Fire Caste's military forces. Customize them by mounting advanced support systems.
  • Drones and Markerlights - Deploy many different designs of drones, miracles of T’au technology, that provide offensive, defensive and tactical support. Make use of Markerlights to maximize your firepower.

So far, at least on Steam, the reception has been quite warm to this new DLC. Even if you don't want to play as the T'au, another race to have in the world is going to expand the gameplay possibilities and probably make you change your own tactics.

Pick up the DLC on Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

I want so much to buy the complete edition of this game but it keeps getting over my budget with an ever expanding price due to low discounts and new DLCs...

Insta buy from gog. I've really enjoyed this game.
Total War: Warhammer 2 is also very good.

I really like what the studio is doing with the game. They started small (4 factions) and added another three factions since the game was released. :-)
I hope they will continue with this and in the end we will end up with turn based version of Dawn Of War, which had 8 playable factions after last datadisc.

Wish I could play this. I am a huge 4X game fan and a colossal Warhammer nerd. Sadly the game won't run at all for me. I just get a black screen that has to be killed from the console.

But from your PC Info, you're using a GTX 1060 with Wayland with the proprietary drivers? How is it possible? If you were using Xorg, your PC is well within specs.

Thank you for reminding me to double check that. I'm actually x11. I updated my info from my phone and fat-fingered that one. Meant to fix it when I got home and forgot all about it.

And yeah, I am well within specs but their tech support is a joke.

Me: *sends detailed email about the problem along with all the troubleshooting steps I have already taken.*
Them: Try uninstall/reinstall.
Me: I did that, as detailed in my original email.
Them: Update your drivers.
Me: Again. Read the original email. I have up-to-date drivers.
Them: *detailed instructions for Windows*
Me: I'm not on Windows. In the original complaint, I specify that I am on Linux Mint.
Them: Oh... Try uninstall/reinstall
Me: Grrrrr.....

Try Proton. I was a huge fan of this game, but it broke on SteamOS (old ass glibc)sometime around the Chaos DLC, and it never ran in Proton. Sucked for me but no hard feelings really. Tested the other night and as of 5.x, Gladius is working in proton, so I'm back. Tempted to buy Chaos and Tau, but gonna wait a bit. Very happy about this though.

I didn't know you could force Proton on games with Linux builds. I'll look that up and give it a shot. Thanks!

EDIT: It worked! At least I think it did. I got an error about the language not being loaded but then the launcher came up and I was able to get into the main menu. You are a scholar and a saint. Thank you.

How is that possible WTF?
The game has official native Linux support, come on guys... "didn't read lol! Ahah"...

I don't own the game but I plan to buy it on GOG one day, I'm a bit curious about how it would work on my PC.

The Proton is very helpful in this, I got a few old games with native port that weren't running and forcing them to run with Proton did the trick. At least we have another option to try when support for the game is bad or non-existent.
