Developers introduced a new point release 1.7.11 of a development branch of Wine. While keeping with a two week release cycle, They were able to push out many new features and 46 bugfixes. It includes a preparation work for D3D command stream.

The few most interesting features introduced in this release:
  • Uniscribe support in the RichEdit control.
  • Support for condition variables and Slim Reader/Writer locks.
  • More D3D command stream preparation work.
  • Optional Start Menu in desktop mode.
  • Improved support for vertical fonts metrics.
  • Various bug fixes.

One of the most anticipated features, the dreaded "D3D command stream" is slowly getting into a master branch.
For now only essential parts, that were deemed stable enough were committed. The whole patchset is still considered unstable, but if You want to test it, it is available on the authors github page. For more info on this patchset, please read this.

Word of warning: This is unstable patchset on top of development branch, some regressions may occur while You test it.

So is it mean that we don't have to install D3D for games required?? Ans what about the performance did you tried to use CMST? It nearly doubles the FPS in starcraft 2

Is there a way to get this with the default download repository for ubuntu? I'd like to try it out but I tend to break things when I try to manually patch them :(

You can try it via playonlinux, thats what I am doing know. By using Manage Wine Version, download and install wine 1.7.04-CSMT or directly 1.7.11
