The Wine Development Release 1.7.29 Is Now Available.

Wine development team was able to produce a new experimental release today. 1.7.29 bringing many new features and as many as 44 bugfixes.

A new issue of World Wine News is also available: #377

The few most interesting features introduced in this release:
  • Support for shaping and BiDi mirroring in DirectWrite.
  • Some page fault handling fixes.
  • A few more C runtime functions.
  • Various bug fixes.

I just asked myself. How do you handle wine updates? I use PlayOnLinux so I can easily switch wine version.

Do you update all the time or stick to a specific version, because it's working with game x?

Since I use PlayOnLinux I'm sticking at the moment with a version that works for each game.

I'm still running 1.7.24 with CSMT patches myself. IMO just stick with the version of wine/POLwine that works for you. Unless you have some specific app/game that doesn't work with previous versions of wine of course. Then it might be worth trying bleeding edge versions I suppose.

In this wine version steam still working

But most interesting thing (in tested for now) is this

33034 Many GFWL (Games For Windows Live) 1.x/2.x/3.x games crash or exit silently on startup (DiRT 2/3, GTA IV Steam)

In some titles works but at this time for example this prevent GFWL live crash and if possible create local profile without problem (as see in video) but if title have another check like as securom need fix for that

Fuel securom activation and GTAIV activation works correctly (you can use steam version without problem)

However xliveless works much better than other wine versions and some titles begin to work like as: fuel, grand theft auto IV, virtua tennis 4, red faction guerilla, test drive ferrari legends, bulletstrom

Since I use PlayOnLinux I'm sticking at the moment with a version that works for each game.
I use few patches so sometimes when wine have a new release I have to fix them.
So I upgrade when I'm in mood for some hacking.

However in this wine version appears some errors related with vsync (in test drive unlimited 2 appears too)
