There's now a Linux version of ASTROKILL on Steam as promised

Posted by , / 7175 views

I wrote about how the developer of ASTROKILL [Steam] was planning a Linux build just over a week ago, well, now they have!

As a reminder, here's the trailer:

Here's what they said:

I just uploaded the first Linux build. For anyone that already has the game, it should automatically download (if you're on a Linux machine). I have a batch of Beta keys to give out as well. PM me and I'll send you a key. Bear in mind, this is the first Linux build and it's entirely untested. I'm hoping it just works without a hitch, but that's rarely the case... If you already PM'd me, please do so again (Steam's chat system is pretty clunky).

I've placed it into my personal wishlist, as it seems like a game I would be very into. The developer cites influences from games like Freespace 2 (one of my all time favourites).

About the game:

Focused on combat without compromising realism, ASTROKILL is a modern space shooter drawing inspiration from old-school games like TIE Fighter and Freespace 2. Players pilot fighters, gunships, interceptors, and medics (in 1st or 3rd person) from warring factions in ballistic dogfights. Wage war flying for either the sprawling Dominion of Man or the rebellious Outer Belt Alliance!

It doesn't currently show a SteamOS icon, but don't let that deter you, there is a Linux build available right now.

Will you pick up a copy to support the developer?

m0nt3The game is currently not working on opensource AMD drivers, but does work on intel, seems to perhaps be an issue with radeonsi. As it works on my 6950 with r600g.

_If_ it's related to what I think it is, then it's not an issue with radeonsi exactly, so much as an issue with UE4 that happens to impact radeonsi. Which means an update to UE4 is required to get it to run, if the fix is included in the next update the dev uses (if any).

I'll wait until there is a SteamOS icon and the requirements are updated to show Linux. I know the build is available but until that icon is present I'll sit tight.

There's really no need to hold off on that basis unless you're holding off specifically for a stable version, which an Early Acss game is not.

I don't trust Valve to count the purchase towards Linux. So I always play it safe and wait until there is a SteamOS icon and requirements for Linux listed.

Picked up this game today... Obviously needs quite a bit of spit and polish - but pretty decent looking for such a small development team. It's okay for the money though...

It does seem to have dual-monitor bug running this game with Nvidia's twin view + Plasma 5. I couldn't get mouse focus to the primary monitor where the game insisted on opening.
Anyone else seeing this issue?
Is it a UE4 Engine issue perhaps?

I've got an /etc/X11/xorg.d/... xrandr screen override - to allow quick switching of Nvidia Metamodes (2 monitor: external+internal, external monitor only, internal monitor only, both monitors off). Just switching to a single monitor being enabled works around the issue... But it's annoying when I have to use this! :-(

Marek had posted using LD_PRELAOD to load libelf.so, but that did not solve the problem for me, not sure it is related at least to what I am experiencing, but perhaps. I just get an assortment of colors and small shapes, but I get sound and can click through the menus.
