THQ Nordic now own Koch Media GmbH

By - | Views: 13,422

Not that it really means all that much for us, but interesting nonetheless, THQ Nordic has acquired Koch Media GmbH.

Naturally, the announcements contain a lot of legal-speak, but some of it is quite interesting. THQ Nordic have actually put out a few Linux games like the revamp of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, the updated Imperium Galactica II and the RPG Silver. They're also the publisher of games that support Linux like The Book of Unwritten Tales, This Is the Police, The Dwarves and a bunch more.

This also means that THQ Nordic also now own Deep Silver, so they now gain Dead Island, Metro, Saints Row, Risen, Homefront and plenty more with that too.

Hopefully THQ Nordic will remain somewhat Linux friendly, since they now essentially control some pretty big names it will be interesting to see if they push for any more games on Linux.

You can see the announcement on the Koch Media site here, with more info here as well.

What do you think to this?

Thanks for the tip, micha!

Well, let's say this - It probably will eventually mean (i.e. 1+ years from now) some changes in game releases. Those changes might or might not be positive for Linux.

Casting a slightly negative light on it - The bigger the publisher, generally the more focussed on Windows and Console games markets.

Still hoping, praying, and begging for the darksiders games to eventually make their way to Linux. The remastered versions plus Darksiders 3? That's my dream.

Battlechasers was also published by THQ Nordic although developed by Airship Syndicate.

I hope they get Metro Exodus out for Linux too.

Deep Silver was fairly linux friendly any how, we have Metro, Saints Row ect.

Good that its another linux friendly publisher that's bought it though, It could have been worse, Bethesda could have grabbed it :O

I don't like acquisitions and for extension I don't like anything that cuts or aims at decreasing diversity of any kind. Having this said, I hope they maintain certain level of releases and support towards Linux gaming.

Considering we got the original games + the remasters I really hope this is the case. I fired up Last Light Redux last night and was amazed at how far MESA has come with that game. 60+ FPS maxed out at 3440x1440.

I know nothing about the specifics. However, one thing that's certain is that the Koch brothers are assholes. So all else being equal, things relevant to us not being owned by them should be a good thing.
