On the official development blog, they've talked a little about victory conditions to appeal to different types of gamers. It's not all or nothing conquest here (although that's an option), as you can also go for a Fame victory. If you're the sort that likes to build up and develop your faction, rather than attacking and conquering the whole map, a Fame victory condition will be ideal.

Not that we suggest doing so, but you can pre-order it now from Steam and the Feral Store. If you are planning to, I would advise using the Feral Store to ensure the porter gets paid properly to ensure more future ports.

Honestly, what they did with faction is... totally retarded.

They are trying to form faction by geography, i.e., you can build certain buildings only in regions which have certain slots, but it is not just local distribution, but global distribution. Like monasteries available only in Ireland, so only Ireland can build some monks or so (bogus example, but you get my point), the problem is that when Ireland conquers Wales, they can build only Wales buildings. Unless done really well, and I doubt it, this defeats the purpose why factions are interesting, by providing different gameplay. But since TW was always about conquering everything, everyone would be a boring bland.

Like in MW, when you joined faction and then carved your new land by conquering some different faction and you were given those castles and villages.

The problem was, that while you joined i.e., Rhodoks for the purpose of using Rhodokian troops, as you were conquering i.e., Norse, you were given Norse villages and you could hire only norse troops. So in time, your troops were becoming strictly Norse.
