TynanSylvester, the developer of the hit indie game RimWorld answered my questions in his reddit AMA.

I asked about supporting Linux and Linux sales and he had this to say:
QuoteUnity made it really easy actually. It's pretty much one-click.
Linux sales are a tiny proportion, but it's nice to include everyone. I'd say it's worth is because Unity makes it really easy. If I had to do it myself, maybe, maybe not.

Many thanks to the developer for the honesty, I take honesty over sugar coated answers any day.

You can find RimWorld on his official site (DRM Free without a Steam key), or on Steam. Go give him some tux bucks as it's fantastic (really it is!).

Unity and other game engines have made Linux gaming what it is today (along with Valve of course), we should be very thankful. They all have issues of course, but nothings perfect. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

unity seems to have most of their Linux issues fixed as of unity 5.4+ so hopefully most unity games should be decent going forward. I'll have to grab a copy of Rimworld sometime soon.

I'd assume more fixes will help fine tune things. (knock on wood) I haven't seen any graphical issues from Faeria or Savage Lands in the last few patches. It looks like Faeria even fixed the mouse pointer so that you have the nice graphical mouse pointer in Faeria now.

Comments like these boost my spirits far more than any single dev complaining about how "hard" or "complicated" it is for them to release a Linux version of a game. I just want to point to people like TynanSylvester and say, "See? He didn't have a problem creating a port! What's your excuse?"

Playing advocate here, on the flip side although the honesty is appreciated, im not sure just pressing a button and uploading to SteamDB is the way linux ports should go forward. I have seen this echoed on the steam forums where almost always the dev has never touched linux, which might sound great because Unity is doing it's job but then it also means the game was never tested on the platform and the devs over time don't become accustomed to the linux desktop. Basically it could keep good devs locked into the Windows platform for many years longer.

I point at Undertale. Once Toby finally decided to make Linux a priority, it only took a few days. And that's one dev who isn't even a programmer.

Thanks for bringing Faeria to my attention. It is not listed in Steam as Linux compatible but after I seen this post I did some digging. Game looks interesting, thank you, will be keeping an eye on this.

RimWorld is on the top of my wish list. Love Prison Architect, once I get through my summer sale purchases this will be played.

There was a bug with the Steam key redemption system for Kickstarter backers that I encountered, but after emailing the help desk they got it fixed and I now have a score of mods installed for my first Steam game. :)
